My wife's bike has all the parts I didn't want, we call it the "leftover trek" 😂

I love a good bargain! You got me interested in sizing. I'm coming to mountain biking after a long break (I stopped at the beginning of the 27.5 era). Bikes feel so incredibly long now. You said this new bike is in size small (as opposed to medium in your Transition). What's your height? I'm trying to find the best size for myself and doing reach calculations rather than following manufacturer's recommended sizing based on my height
@evo1cycling8 ай бұрын
Im around 5’10, my Transition Patrol is a 27.5 bike which I opted for since I felt like 29 would be less playful but now after riding a 29” size small I think that could be a more playful option. There was another comment talking about sizing down that explains it better if you come from a background riding smaller bikes like BMX and I’m really thinking hard about making the switch to a smaller frame now. I don’t do crazy long XC rides where being perfectly sized for comfort would matter as much, and even my long rides are mostly spent standing, jumping, or on the back wheel playing around.
@dariusf28 ай бұрын
It really depends on the brand, I'm 5'7 and jump between small and medium. For example my Salsa Bucksaw is a small and both of my Ibis SLR and Mojo 3 bikes are medium. Also you are right about bikes being so long now.

Nice find and info.............. Oh and never clamp the top tube even on Al or steel frames (carbon goes without saying). Top tubes are not designed to handle compression loads.
@evo1cycling8 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! I have a thin gel insert wrapped under the mircofiber and just enough pressure to keep it from sliding, I've had carbon creaky noises before from over clamping and learned my lesson on that one! Mind if I include that tip in an upcoming video? Your comment got me thinking about making a video on how easy it is to damage a bike during repair.

@@evo1cyclingGo ahead and spread the word on not clamping the top tube. I think Trek even advises not to sit on their carbon road bike top tubes.

Are there SIX pivot points? 😮 4 pivot with a horst? Nvm, I looked at the site and could zoom in. Kind of an interesting suspension linkage for "cross country".

It’s surprisingly balanced, probably one of the most fun bikes I’ve ridden in a while from an agility standpoint. I was not expecting it to ride as great as it did

there's no such thing as "price of the frame alone" because these prices are ridiculously inflated since 2020. it's just a number they would never be able to sell them now, so was it ever even worth the original price tag? anyway, it looks great, and the price is right now
@evo1cycling8 ай бұрын
There’s a lot of truth to that, I guess a better way to phrase it would have been if I had wanted to build a bike frame up, finding a carbon frame and supporting parts new would have cost roughly the same. It’s insane how expensive bikes have gotten these days, I remember when $400-500 was a lot for a frame

A lot of bikes now are on sale still effect of the pandemic. I remember wanting a specific brand and model that was around 2009$. Now I can get the updated version half. Wow

Maybe you're like me and just like a smaller frame because it's more playful and easier to throw around
@evo1cycling8 ай бұрын
That wouldn’t surprise me, I rode BMX for years so getting on this size small I had to fight the urge to 180 and 360 the bike off everything. Is it more common for people to downsize, even when it goes against the rules?
@ByronAllis8 ай бұрын
@@evo1cycling or more common, but you and I both share BMX in common. I started y age 10 and continued into my early 20's. Then got into road, gravel and long distance including xc, but I still really missed that playful feeling of a smaller bike and ended up getting a trail mtb deliberately 1 size smaller. The next mtb I buy will probably run 27.5 wheels tho a 26“ DJ would be even more fun. But no fitting customers, selling, building bikes etc this is not the trend for most, we just still have BMX in our blood 😂

They are more of a boutique brand and not advertised well but built in Spain. I've been very impressed so far, time will tell obviously but if its a niche brand putting out high quality bikes I'm not opposed to taking a chance on them.

NX and SX are not acceptable on a mountain bike. GX is the minimum requirement
@LaurentiusTriarius8 ай бұрын
Some shops must love them since they are out of adjustment after every ride 😂 *to be fair I tried only the newest SX and it didn't improve at all but some say NX is "less worse"...
@evo1cycling8 ай бұрын
“Less worse”, I do find that NX is okay-ish just takes a lot more due diligence to get set up correctly and look after because when it gets out of adjustment it snowballs really quickly. The thing I like least is you have to have a Shimano tool to remove but XD tool to change which is pretty dumb, and at that point you could have gone X01 complete which is the better value. I will likely take the NX that’s on this bike and start playing with the knock off and import parts to convert it and see how well they last.
@dariusf28 ай бұрын
I run NX 1x11 on all 3 of my latest mountain bikes, Salsa Bucksaw, Ibis SLR and Ibis Mojo 3. Had XT, XTR, x7, x9 and GX before. Not sure why you would say that. Shift great and no issues and super low cost. Run them with Sunrace 11-42 and 11-48 cassettes.
@robvanduren7618 ай бұрын
@@dariusf2 Im comparing it to bullet proof Shimano 3x8 or 2x9 or 2x10 etc which are durable and reliable. I would consider those Shimano sets heavy duty compared to fragile loww end SRAM. I have 3 bikes. 1-full M8000 2- XO1 3-full GX
