The cello and violin backup is soooo rich! And the lyrics are heavenly.

Used to wear this song out on the jukebox at the local tavern. Danced with a certain girl every time. Oh, the dreams this song brings back ! I can still smell her perfume....

Beautiful song. I think Maury was the best acoustic lead guitarist EVER. And then there's the lyrics, maybe we were just too young to know...memories of a beautiful girl I knew long ago...

I close my eyes and I can be transported to those days when everything was a like a dream ... what a great times. My son was born and I was the happiest dad on the face of the earth. But then, unfortunately, those dreams where shuttered with a terrible divorced. My son is in the army now and she is my friend. I miss her but I guess that is what destiny had for us.

I'm from New York and I recall the sadness my Uncle displayed when he heard that his good friend, Jim Croce, had been in a plane crash and they would not be going fishing. I grew up around music all my life and to this day, Jim Croce is Still one of my Favorite Artists. Gone too soon...

@@maryhuhnke8496 Thank God for people like Jim Croce and your uncles good taste! This music was certainly my moms generation of music passed down to anybody that cares to listen to soul touching words that stand the test of time...Lots of this generation of youngsters appear to realize now there is more to music than BABY BABY BABY...AND BABY...There are videos here on You Tube and elsewhere for first reactions when they listen to music like Jim Croce that tells a story to them and it is priceless
What came between us? I did. I was stupid and thought I wanted something different. Looking back, she was the one for me, and I turned her away. Now at night I have these dreams that will never come true, and I cry out for you...
