The "Ground Zero" angle is AWESOME. It's also a way to point out where "we" are with consumer video! Most of us have a couple (or MORE) unused but functional phones laying around. Almost any decen smartphone made in the last decade will beat any $500 camcorder from the early 2000s and we just have them laying around! They don't need a "plan" or "service" to be used as cameras, So why not get a couple (or MORE, Lol) cheap tripods (Phone are light so you don't NEED an expensive tripod) and some phone mounts for tripods (Cheap on Amazon) and set up your "old" phones for different angles. Lighting fireworks is the PERFECT use case for such a setup! Also setting up one or two on one's front and back porch during a thunderstorm ups the odds of catching some lightning shots! Now, THAT's how I recycle my "old" stuff!

I have a couple of "decommissioned" phones. Tri-pod mounts are an awesome way to "repurpose" them as cameras for shooting video from multiple angles! How good phone cameras have become in the last 10 years, we often forget that we have STILL useful "gear" collecting dust in a drawer!

Personally, I preferred the five-inch shells. Because they weren't double or triple-breaks, they could dedicate everything to one shot. The trails and effects were better than the four-inch shells, and they were bigger than the individual breaks on the six and seven-inch shells.

Just about any mid-range or better phone of ANY brand in the last 5-7 years would work for this. I have "real" cameras (DSLRs and compacts) But, I often forget what damn fine little video cams our old friend the smartphone is. I have several "old" phones that I use on tripod mounts for capturing video from different angles. In those cases, I usually use a separate audio recorder for sound. Syncing the audio with the video shots is a "bear" of a post-production job, But that's true even with "real" cameras. For Cody's use case in this video syncing is not needed as the phone video was presented as a standalone piece. Since we (a lot of us anyway) "upgrade" our phones so often that we forget that we have perfectly good "HD camcorders" collecting dust in a drawer!
