Was basically gonna say the same thing lol; clean water xP But if I hypothetically had to choose just one item categorically? For equipment I'd say a good filter, for products I'd say Prime, and for accessories I'd say hides if it's a multi species tank or live plants for solo fish. Just my two cents for fun tho. ^_^

I actually read the Disabled Tyrant and His Pet Fish and it's actually pretty hilarious. Also the dude builds a tank that's basically a man-made river system spanning his entire manor along with custom hardscape, decor and underwater gardens and that's a level of unhinged fishkeeping I would aspire to if I didn't think everyone else in my household would kill me for it.

@11:00 the tank on the cinder blocks isn't as unstable as you might think. Moving the cinder blocks in closer would actually be a worse idea. The design of a well built fish tank puts all the weight on the outside corners. While I would find it more stable to have a third row of cinder blocks in the middle for something that size, I have a similar set up and it has worked for over 5 years now.
@exotherm423 ай бұрын
Mostly agreed, my only worry with this setup would be that the tank might bow. A third row in the middle could work but would have to be the exakt same height as the other two. To me, the easiest and most stable stand for a tank that size would be a frame of (for example) aluminum bars with legs made of the same bars on both sides and in the middle, if that makes sense.
@FishForThought3 ай бұрын
yeah the chance of bowing is pretty worrying
@toothpicdinosaur3777Ай бұрын
My steel tank stand is only holding the tank from the sides. The middle does not touch the stand/tank. It's been this way for years. My cat jumps on top just to watch the fish. Mo the cat in my avatar has cracked two plastic tops now I use plastic light diffuser material.

Water dechlorinator.... You dont have to have a net. You dont have to have an algae scraper. You can make a tank that doesnt need heat or a filter or a special light... But it's hard to make a tank without some way to dechlorinate water quickly... Especially if you had plants shipped and the delivery date keeps changing and then they show up 2 days early anyway, but you live in texas so they have to get wet *now* or dry to a crisp....

BTW, I have a 75-gallon with 5 shubunkin, 2 fantail and a pretty small butterfly telescope goldy. The other fish are fine with little Donald, but they push him around at feeding time, however he is the only one not afraid of me, so I have a pinch of high growth mini pellets and when he gets to the surface, I pour them down his throat to make sure he gets his.
