They are simply XPOP as in global Pop.They describe themselves as Hip Hop and R&B.

XG are 7 Japanese; they are based in South Korea though, promote there and have been trained with the traditional K-Pop idol methods. That's why they often pop up in searches for K-Pop girl groups. But that's it - they do NOT perform typical K-Pop, or J-Pop. Instead, it's mostly western 90s/early 2000s style oriented Rap and R&B, completely in English. Sometimes they mix some pop or even club sounds into it, but WWY here for example is as original 90s R&B as can possibly be. Literally nobody else does this. So, they call it X-Pop ... I call it Modern Old School ... others simply a HipHop and R&B group. To quote a line from one of their tracks "XG about to break your idol stereotypes".

i have been a fan for almost a year - new fans can get lost in the weeds of which version of Pop they belong to - I do know that they are doing the second reality show on Mnet (kpop tv show). they have several things recently on All The Kpop, they have performed at two Kcon events - for me Xpop is just a superset of Kpop - they trained in the kpop system, they are based in Korea for a reason, they do many of the same shows as kpop groups do - the xpop comes in with all songs being in english and not Kpop english - many reactors have noted the difference and you can hear it for yourself - the rap style is not kpop but western hip hop, including some really clever wordplay, resulting in a lot of pauses to catch the bars - Harvey in Chill Bill (rap vid) 'make you run it back' - Tape 3B, Cocona 'God's favorite like a N.O.R.E -> Nothin' is the lead single of N.O.R.E album God's favorite' - that is not kpop rap, that is xpop - just my long winded take on it

Their music is influenced by US hipihop r&b, which is different from K-pop, and you can also feel the influence of K-pop in their dance performances. Since they are based in South Korea, they are often mistaken for K-pop artists. However, all of the members are Japanese, and you can feel the influence of Japanese pop culture such as anime and movies, especially in the music video. I can't categorize it anymore. That's what X POP is.

XG is Xpop a new genre concept by XGALX from AVEX JAPAN 🇯🇵. The Executive Producer, Simon “Jakops” created this Japanese Global Group and selected each member meticulously. Every member is an “Ace”. Everything they’ve posted has continuously impressed me and I’m older so I’ve listened to many genres growing up and I love XG. In a way, they were inspired by K-Pop even though they are Japanese. Simon Jakops, their producer, form this girl group with the purpose of breaking down racial barriers and to inspired younger generation. He is former member of K-Pop boy group, DMTN. He is both Japanese Korean. So basically, they don’t care about them being considered as J-Pop or K-Pop, they just want to make good music.

Kpop is pop sung in korean so obviously they aren't Kpop. They're more a Y2K Hip Hop / RnB style girl group with old Jpop Style like Foxxy MisQ, Namie Amuro, M-Flo and many other japanese Pioneers.

I can’t tell if you’re being passive aggressive or not or being genuine, but I asked because I don’t know much about the girls as a group or much about them as individuals. Just because they aren’t singing in Korean, imo, does not mean anything. Dynamite by BTS is sung fully in English but is still considered kpop! But regardless, thank you for the comment and insight, it’s always nice to learn more about the girls, they’re amazing!

@@naynay954 calm down, I'm not 😅 I'm just trying to explain you things. Dynamite is Kpop obviously because of the musical style (even if you aren't a Kpop fan you would recognize the genre just by the technical aspect of the song). I listen to Kpop since 2008 (my profile picture is Taeyeon from SNSD) and I can recognize the difference just by listening to the music. But XG is very different. The only aspect of them similar to Kpop is some part of their MV (even if it's still debatable) but musically they are very Hip Hop / RnB from the 90's....

AHHHHHH, okokok, my apologies!! Tone is hard to read over text! I understand what you mean! I’ve definitely got that vibe from XG that their style is very hiphop/RnB, that’s one of the things that drew me in prior to reacting to their music and such! The first song I actually listened to was Left Right and I loved it!
