A cheap alternative for people based in UK/EU are MTP ECW Gore-Tex shell mittens. ~121g for size small, breathable and waterproof, usually around $20.

@@tommieboi707 I live in the UK and wish US brands have more accessible pricing in the UK. A lot of them double their prices for the UK market, like Nemo and Sea to Summit, granted Sea to Summit is Aussie. Vango is alright but can't compare to Nemo, S2S or even Big Agnes. It used to be good - home-grown Scottish brand but nowadays has fallen far behind in terms of innovation. Products tend to be heavy and bulky, though still good quality.

I had some great waterproof gloves when I was in college: I wore some of those rubber monster hands from the halloween store over a 99-cent pair of acrylic stretch gloves. Kept my hands warm and dry, never leaked, and best of all, the total cost was $6. Also, the 6 year old who lived next door thought I was just about the coolest adult he'd ever met. :D

Awesome review! My biggest thumbs down with ANY glove is when there is a inner thats not fastened. So when you are moist in the hands, pull the glove off and the inner follows out. It the worst feeling in the world (not really) when you gotto insert your hand and like poke the inner into the outer.. Hate it.

I use a pair of MTP goretex mittens - military surplus, they go for around 5 to 10 British pounds in the UK. They're outers, to go over normal gloves - I haven't tested to see if they're water proof, but boy are they wind proof, which is why I bought them. Like a lot of british military surplus, they're described as goretex, but whether they really are, I don't know. They go quite a long way up the arm, possibly look a bit silly, but I like them.

My problem with gloves is that, for regular gloves sizing, my palm measures for a medium, but my fingers measure for a large. So I have never found a pair of gloves that really fit well. I settle for a medium, but it always feels too tight on my fingers and they're resisting the gloves. Thus, my first impression upon seeing these gloves is that its got such stubby fingers relative to the sack-like palm. Did you notice any issues with that?
@richardlocke33753 жыл бұрын
Outdoor resource meteor mits are loose enough in the shell that you still have good dexterity and come with finger less liners. Much cheaper but still best gloves I have.

I completely understand the notion that the price is egregious and that they might have been going for military pricing but I the MGS was designed specifically for SOCOM to complement their PCU line up, and that itself is the SOCOM equivalent to the ECWCS. Yes there are much more economically sound options out there that will get the job done and you can definitely save money by hunting for deals but as outrageous as the pricing was, these were purpose designed for professional users. Also It wasn't until about a week ago that these products were available for purchase directly from outdoor research, it used to be restricted.

For the military i think they make sense i could see them charging 120 bucks , down to zero degrees is pretty good , it beats wearing mutant gloves and having no dexterity and having your gloves possibly get wet . Poor man's solution: a pair of nitrile industrial gloves with a cloth lining for about two bucks on Amazon. I put them on over my smartwool and I am good in any rain from 45 degrees on down. I have worn these for multiple trips and stayed warm and dry. I have tried multiple gloves and have either been too cold or they got me wet. For me, it has been the best solution, which is kind of silly, since I have about 1.5K on my back and in that pack.
