The one I'm most regretful for me, was the trimming. That's so unnecessary. Especially for textured hair. I did the same thing you did. I was trimming at least once every 2-3 months last year. No way I should've been cutting it that much. Never again. I may do once a year, IF THAT. Trimming was invented for pure aesthetics and for straight hair. Anyway, great video! We live and we learn. Thank God those of us who do learn don't repeat those mistakes.

Well said! Trimming should only be done when absolutely necessary.

How do you feel about the concept of split ends traveling up the hair shaft? I only got one trim this year and it was a very small trim. My hairstylist took a picture of my hair after going over it with a straightener once and showed me my split ends. According to her it looks really bad. I don’t get silk presses often. Only 2 times a year. But since i been fully natural for over a year with minimal trims my hair grew a TON and is super thick. Grew way more than when i was getting trims consistently. So now im in this boat where Im not sure if I should continue to get trims more often due to the split ends traveling up my hair shaft, or if i should just leave it alone. What do you think? ❤

Everyone’s hair is different. A generalized term like “Natural hair doesn’t need trims,” is super misleading. You saw the proof yourself that your hair needs trimming so don’t take this for the standard across the board. My sister’s ends get bad as well without managing the ends well. Split ends do damage the hair shaft overtime. The key to this was the og commenter said she didn’t need trims every 2-3 months, she can go longer, maybe you can’t I don’t know. Point is, everyone NEEDS trims. Not everyone needs them as often, you have to figure out your own timeline.

You have to have a routine for your hair, can’t follow after other people’s advice because that’s their routine they follow for their hair

I trim my hair to keep it healthy so it won't go up the shaft. Trimming when needed keeps it healthy.

That great sis! Healthy hair over length right through! Trimming can be an amazing tool to help along the hair growth journey once it is not done too frequently.
