As another small drum line with massive chops, these guys were a big inspiration for us. We talked about that snare roll for YEARS!

The grip matter with the marimba section - they are playing a segment from the second moment of a marimba piece called Merlin, which was originally written for William Moersch, who utilizes traditional cross grip which Burton grip is based on

I had a very distinct memory, just a couple days ago, of one IP’s lot videos of these kids and remembered just how impressive their playing was. Then I was sad because I couldn’t remember what year this was or what school they were, and thought it would be a very long time until I came across this group again. Needless to say I’m psyched you put this video up!

Despite the snares and drummers being different heights, the sticks come to the same apparent height for each drummer. Really impressive performance.

@@gsenselboa doesn’t pay any attention to percussion… this year's show for my band was a percussion based show, and they didn’t judge us AT ALL and we only got 7th in regional championships… it’s still okay i guess, but compared to how we scored at every other comp where they had percussion judges we did terribly score-wise
@gsensel Жыл бұрын
@@savingcpr5450 what I was referring to is band size in general for BoA. Look at grand national finals show and there is the Obligatory small/medium band (don’t remember the class designations because I’ve been out of the band world for a while) in exhibition because they didn’t make it past semifinals and only 2 made it there because that’s how the rules are setup.

This is so clean and so musical. The vertical writing is just outstanding. I was taught the Burton grip when I first learned a 4 mallet grip. Personally it feels more natural to me than the Stevens. I use Burton on marimba most of the time, I get lots of grief about it.
@ThatOldGrey Жыл бұрын
I think their marimba budget was greater than my entire district's mid-1980's school budget! I played in our HS band from 7th grade on, but the wheels came off by the time I was a junior. It was fun, but several orders of magnitude less interesting or difficult than any real corps. Amazing stuff!
@coreygeiger81 Жыл бұрын
I love that the keyboards are throwin' down ' Merlin'! That's not an easy marimba solo by it self, and they are killing it as a group. The tempo they are taking it at is not the same as the original, but its still friggin' impressive. They did a good job Arr. Burritt's marimba solo piece, including ensemble breakdown @7:57

My favorite part was the unison deep toms on the beats with the battery. I will say when you play this fast it makes timing easier. Space = room for error. But incredible playing for a group of high school level players. I actually prefer the smaller groups for indoor, you can hear the clarity. When you have 30+ players it just gets BOOMY and you hear nothing.

Great way to go ahead and get the band out of the way and go ahead with the percussion ensemble down to the drum line.😂 if only my high school wasn’t so into marching band, we all could have fast forwarded and got to the good part!!! Unfortunately I guess we needed the rest of them too.😂 JK the rest of the band can come too.
