Makoto's mana is around the same level as the goddess right now. It's at least "demigod" level due to that bow training he does. The previous episode explained this already. Also, Makoto's parents are considered "grants" because they successfully stayed on another world that the one the story is taking place on. There's really nothing special about that specifically, other than the fact that they survived a trip with a 10% or less chance of success. The REAL noteworthy thing is the training they put their kids through in preparation for the day one of them would be scooped up by that goddess. Lastly, Makoto actually had to NERF his own power to do that contract with the Lich. Even the lowest possible contract (a 90-10 contract) is normally impossible for Makoto for form with anyone other than Tomoe or Mio. But if they contain their power beforehand, you can still make the contact. It's actually theoretically possible for Makoto to make a contract with Emma this way. There's a slight mistranslation on that part, it's being compared to a "100-0" difference, but it's actually closer to say "9999-1"

I know you are comparing it to a gotcha game, but there's one big difference. In a gotcha game, if you don't hit that 10% chance you still get something. With travel between worlds, if you don't hit that 10% you DIE. There is no retries, you either make it or you don't. Another way to think about it is like this. I hold up ten fingers and tell you to pick one. If you pick the right one you win. But if you pick one of the nine wrong ones...
