Dang! I'm sitting on a goldmine and didn't know! I love to sew, have made my own clothes since I was 13. When I was 16 (1977) I bought a large box filled with buttons at an estate sale. They had belonged to a tailor in NYC who had a business between 1900 and the 1930s, according to his granddaughter who sold me the whole box for $5. There are lots of brass buttons from rail lines, hotels, old military buttons including band uniforms. Most are @ 1910-1920. I made a vest that I used small 1/2 inch brass buttons that had interesting designs, no two alike. Lots of pretty glass and Bakelite buttons too, but some of the Bakelite have crumbled. She told me this collection were spare buttons he kept just in case a client needed a match for a lost button. I haven't looked through those in about 30 years! Now I keep them in a huge old glass cracker jar to protect them from moisture and oxidation. Looks like I've got some work to do! 😃

Just a small comment. What you called "Bon Am" is actually "Bon" "Ah-mee", (French for "good friend") 'Bon Ami'. I believe it was a cleaning powder company, like Comet or Ajax, (or there was one by that name at one point). Thanks for the knowledge you share.
@backyardonorchard94202 жыл бұрын
There is still Bon Ami it is just about the only cleaner I use 😊 it's better than bar keepers friend because it doesn't scratch. And it's more natural then most with just 5 ingredients Calcium Carbonate (Limestone), Feldspar Powder (Mild Abrasive), Sodium Carbonate (Soda Ash), Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda), C10-C16 Alkylbenzene Sulfonic Acid (Surfactant).

I never sold clothes but I started selling books and pretty quickly moved to similar niche vintage items like you show. I'm always on the lookout for obscure promo and low print run records.

Boy'' I wish things like this would sell in the UK. You may be able to sell the odd item you have shown but you would get very little in money for them. I've said before that the USA is a completely different place for selling & buying. Buttons & stuff like this would get you about £4 to £6 each if you're lucky in the UK, maybe US buyers would buy these things. Very interesting video Don. Thank you. Charles in the UK
@StopMoColorado2 жыл бұрын
For these high margin items, will you would be making well over 20 £, have you thought about offering international shipping? I've bought multiple postcards from the UK and from Continental Europe myself.

I sell the flags and accessories off an accessories off of department 56 buildings and buildings and do better with replacement parts then if I sell the whole building or village house
@detgoat2 жыл бұрын
I've inherited a large collection of dept 56-snow village, mostly from the mid 80s to mid 90s, both houses/commercial bldg, & lots of accessories that filled in the display we used to setup each winter, to truly look like snapshot in time, of main Street, anytown, USA.. Cars, people, trees, ice rink, etc.. I'm not trying to market myself, as saying come buy my items.. Just wondering if you or anyone, could point me in right direction if there's a specific price guide that's respectable

I'm new to all this so forgive me. The record states "Not for Sale" - I realize it's old - but I read somewhere that eBay frowned on selling 'promotional/free' items. How does that work?
@jennifercarney17622 жыл бұрын
They don’t frown too hard. I resell all sorts of promotional toys. The not for sale meant to the consumer at the time the item was produced, meaning it was a display item.

What about a older Avon catalog and Avon cologne bottles full and boxes for the most part. I have got a lot of different stuff that some how seem like I get left with after my aunt and uncle buy a storage unit and they get out the stuff they want witch I wouldn't give five dollars for the stuff that they keep cause it's actually worthless pieces of compression board made that falls apart and everything else to me personally if I can't get it sold or if it'll actually be useful to someone that can't afford to buy that is poor people and getting used for what it is used for or actually wanted by someone who likes that sort of stuff then I'll burn it cause I don't have no use for the the stuff and yes I have offered to give it to some people that actually needing for the kids and had a use for it but not a single person bother to come get it and they live close enough to actually do it so
