as an "in lore" reason for introducing mods: you/your viewer community could come up with your own in-game tech advancement tree - following some logical pattern, (but not necessarily constrained 100% by such - where it would make more sense in the installation process to diverge from logic), and have story beats of your own invention in each episode which allow you to "unlock" the next mod or mods in your planned list. That way you can both explore mods, and have those mods make more tangible sense to those learning them, as they'll be tied to the story, and we humans tend to remember things better when we tie them to stories. :)

on the back of my thoughts there, I tried a prompt into gpt3.5 & 4o and it was pretty damn good & inspirational, I won't post the replies I got here, as it'd be a wall of words and would give away spoilers if you picked similar, and you'd likely want your own input/weighting bias to certain mods in the prompt, but my prompt was: _"describe 5 mods for Kerbal Space Program, together with some fictional "in-game" reason for these mods to be added to an episodic story, whereby the mods would be in effect "unlocked" by some story beat featuring the Kerbals themselves... e.g. USI Habitation Rings unlocked by first performing a separate EVA engineering mission (since an engineer would be needed on EVA to deploy the rings in a following missing and therefore would need prior training)"_

You should do a run where you are also trying to use Principia and kerbalsim. Principia fully replaces the physics in the game and gives it true n-body Newtonian gravitation in the process. Kerbalsim adds van fallen radiation belts to all the planets and makes space in general more dangerous, alters the game to add life support, radiation, failures and an entirely new way of doing science. Additionally you have to manage your food, water, waste and other aspects for your crew to survive the trips you send them on.

In addition to just doing videos that showcase various mods individually, it'd be fun to see you do missions with all the mods you've showcased so far, like just coming up with a fun roleplay reason to do some particular mission, like a plane that flies around Eve, or a giant mobile base on Eeloo, or whatever strikes your fancy really. Even having, like, different series of videos with ongoing stories where you can show off some more complex multi-part missions and stuff. And then as those videos go on, you can mention which mods you're using and be all like "and if you want to learn more about that, I have a video all about this mod here!" and do like a little cross-promotion thing. I dunno, it just seems like a good opportunity to expand on stuff that you've already covered in years past, but with new options and capabilities enabled by modded parts.

I have an idea for a potential stock ksp vid that’s a twist on the typical SSTO Minmus mission. Instead of launching a ssto and doing a direct ascent mission, the ssto would carry a transfer and lander payload that would be deployed from LKO. The craft would then rendezvous with the ssto after the minmus/min landing and dock back into the cargo bay to then be landed back at the KSC.

welcome back to KSP1 modding. I was very upset to learn KSP2 was abandoned despite people having paid $50 for it. Time to go back to KSP1 which will be as close to perfect as possible, thanks to mods.

I feel some type of way seing you back on KSP 1, amazing how a game can just fail like that! Wish the genre would be picked up by actually talented developers.

Man I loved watching interstellar quest, and his later realism series (that one used RSS, not Interstellar Quest)

The only thing aside from graphics I’ll miss on KSP2 is the sound engineering and score. The Duna score from KSP2 was epic.

Any Mods for the score?

i had the same glitch in ksp 2 i did an apollo stayle mun mission. for me the solution was to first stage the 2 stage from the lander stage and then start the engines and take of the mun.(sry if the grammar is wrong im german)

Actually, the grammar was very good. I understood it the first time that I read it. (Native English speaker here.)

that orbital line and "landed state" issue happened to me recently, once on mun and minmus. Been playing off and on for the last 5+ years and I never had that issue till recently. I wonder if its mod related, scatterer possibly. Who knows

next thing we need is updated particle trails behind rockets. or more specifically we need volumetric trails similar to the clouds

KSP2 Accomplishments: Moving and fixing up the instrument cluster fantastic. Load times....Load times are amazing. Graphics are pretty fantastic. Sure there are bugs, but if they had some ISRU refueling options it MIGHT be playable. As it stands, can only really do single shot missions.

This has been my exact dilemma with KSP1 and 2. 2 while flawed and frustrating as hell, it always kept me coming back simply because how gorgeous it was after playing a bone stock KSP for 10 years. Thank you Matt for the perfect mod list for me to go back to my true love, the original KSP. But also thank you Matt for being almost single handedly the inspiration to start streaming KSP. I haven’t done it in quite a while and this just gives the drive to go back. Thank you.

I'd reccommend using The janitor's closet to hide modded parts instead of you having to uninstall and reinstall them every time you want to switch

Out of curiosity regarding mods, what's your opinion on Connected Living Space? Personally I enjoy it, it makes designing things like space stations and large vessels interesting, especially considering I use USI Life Support and need to make sure longer missions have plenty of living space and access to supplies.

So you mentioned once the possibility of doing a big series in a similar vein to Scott Manley's Interstellar Quest. Do you have ideas for what you want to do with that? Is it coming up soon, or more of just something in the "idea phase" right now?

Nothing will be as beautiful as the ksp 2 planets :( they really looked great because of their updated terrain engine

re: the glitch - I first noticed it in a Mike Aben video. I have since had this same issue on at least one occasion, and I think its definitely got something to do with the game thinking you are landed when you are actually in the flight (my guess is that if you are slightly moving on the surface when you launch, it thinks you are still moving and therefore landed but moving, if that makes sense?). I had to revert back to a previous save from much earlier to fix it, sigh

I, for one, like your approach to mods

22:30 Funny that the no orbital line glitch happened to me a couple hours ago lol

I'm sure somebody has already mentioned it, but @scottmanley 's Interstellar wasn't in RSS. In time he did have some serious issues with game updates and mods keeping up with the game. It's still a great series, I go back and watch some episodes every once in a while. Good times!

Disappearing orbital lines happens to me all the time in KSP1 but I have mine modded so much.
