So what exactly does the swivel stick do and how is it placed exactly? Haven't been able to figure it out exactly after watching a bunch of the videos. Edit: so 30 seconds after I left the comment he answered half the question. I guess it goes between the jaws?

Yeah that is exactly correct. It goes between the jaws and keeps the beaver from pushing the trap out of the way one way or another

No I don't. I'm not consuming the water so there is no issues. You can contract Tularhemia through a cut though, but chances are low
