You should check out how I use my logging tongs in connection with my splitter. Took me long enough to figure this method out, but it ended up being much safer than how I was doing it.

This on the 3 point would be a nice tool to skid logs.

I'm not tickled pink about driving around with the FEL high in the air with a heavy log dangling. As long as you are on level ground it should be ok.
@MyClutteredGarage Жыл бұрын
Good point, although keeping the weight low to the ground should help with the center of gravity 👍

I agree tongs are great! Especially to unload logs from my trailer. The forks are hard since my trailer has rails around it

I got the single bar tongs awhile back. Watching this I almost wish Id have gone with the double. What I did for attachment was get something, also on Vevor, that attaches to my forks and has a hook to hang the tongs from.

I use a set on my B2620 for picking large pieces to put onto our wagon and help load it onto my log splitter. Saves my back from previous times I lifted those chunks myself. Also one neat feature is mine has an open width of about 24 inches max-that is also about the width of what my log splitter can take. So if the piece does not fit in the tongs then it will not work for the splitter.

Impressice. I had a large oak fall in my yard. After cutting it, the trunk pieces were huge. 36 to 45" diameter. For those tongs to lift that first slab of oak was very impressive. I will definitely check them out. Thanks for the video!

My tongs have replaceable tips. They come to a super sharp point and once they dig in, they will NOT let go… until you release the pressure. Then they pretty much fall right out.

Mental note. If skidding a log I would use a three point (rear A frame) an weld on a length of pole (. 3-5 ft ) so you can drag out like a taraditional skidder. It would be a great video. and posibly make various attach poits for the tongs on the pole. Just a Hoosier thinkin? Keep up the Great videos. thanks

My tractor came with a 4 in 1 bucket. It can pick up logs and stumps. These tongs are pretty good. They could be good for tractors without a front end loader. The tongs could be mounted to a boom that is on the 3 point hitch to lift logs and stumps.

Weld hooks on the rear of your quick-connect like I did on my BX23s and it will lift more weight. Also, loosen the bolts so it can open easily as you lower it onto the log. No need to get off the tractor to manually put it on. The hooks work great the more you use them to their full potential.
@MyClutteredGarage Жыл бұрын
I was hoping it would open from its own weight. Figured it would wear in. Thanks!

I was think the exact same thing as soon as you had said, modify your pallet forks frame. Those are “poor man’s” grapples but it would be a much more useful setup for your intended use. I could see it being a big asset dragging logs out of the woods! One caveat about your bucking logs with something in the air: dangerous!! Put a log on those 4x4’s and so it on the ground…ask me how I know.😂

A length of rope from the seating position down to the inward claws would allow you to open the claw and drop it over a suitable log...usually.

I don’t think I’d cut firewood rounds with a log on those tongs. It’s ability to move would make it dangerous. Drop a round off and it will rock up toward you. Plus you don’t want it rotating as you cut. Cutting firewood rounds from a log on forks or in a grapple is fine. It’s supported in 2 places or over a section of its length to keep it stationary. Things can go wrong too quickly with a chainsaw!

I think this would be cool if you had one on each side of the bucket to make balancing easier. But at the price I can see why it'd be similarly easy to just drive slower. The bucket does a good job if your speed is right. This would be useful on the end of a boom too for dragging logs. Edit: I need to stop commenting before finishing the video lol.

Enjoyed the video Ed! Nice finessing the slab of wood. Looks like a great product. I checked it out and it seems to be reasonably priced. I don't move a lot of logs, but I move a lot of stone and this looks like it could work very well for me. Thanks for the info, Ben

Interesting thought to use it on stone. Works well on wood because it digs in.

Greetings Ed, bought a set this week…they’re down 10 more dollars now at $89.99. I do have a grapple but at times I have a log I want to move an I may not lift it with the tongs..but the weight exceeds my lift, not my skid!🙂 I can’t always get a position to grab with the grapple but I can always grab with the tongs and skid it out. Also, as you mention, if I want to move one or two logs…I may not want to go to the trouble of hooking up the grapple, so Again… tongs no issue! Are you still good with yours?

Thanks Dan. It does lean a bit forward, but that is the factory position so that the hood can open. I know that the brush guard moves back-and-forth on some models, but it is stationary on the B2601.

I see you also disregarded instructions to match black and white dots on tongs to clevis. No way the instructions are correct unless someone in the factory was playing a joke. Black to white is the only way it bolts safely.
