Oh trust me, I know who Shackleton is. I must have heard that name a thousand times in my life. My grandpa would never feel sorry for me for anything that ever happened. No matter how bad I hurt myself. Or how hard of a time I was having. Never an ounce of sympathy because he would always just say "look at you, Shackleton had it easy compared to you" or "you're a regular Shaleton aren't you" or "and you survived? Shackleton would be proud." Shackleton Shackleton SHACKLETON!

I heartily agree, Shackleton's expedition was an outstanding success. It was not what he intended but no one has even come close to his accomplishment. I read the book, it was an amazing adventure. It astounds me how tough those men were. The physical and mental punishment they endured was phenomenal, yet they survived. It's sad that some of them upon returning immediately enlisted in the army and were killed in the war. One of the most amazing feat of all was Shackleton's navigator Frank Worsley's efforts to navigate from Elephant Island to the whaling station. In spite of the rough seas and terrible weather conditions he nailed it. They were still using wind up chronometers back then and he only had two left. Imagine keeping those things in perfect time under those conditions. What they accomplished just totally astounds me.

@@TruckerJDub I'm not 100% sure but I think it was this one: Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage (Paperback) By (author) Alfred Lansing. It was quite a while ago. I don't think you will go wrong with any of the books. It's just an incredible story. There were so many things that would have killed them all but they made it through. They were out there in this vast emptiness that could swallow them whole. They were alone with almost no resources. And the conditions were brutal.

😳 Correction! Amundsen reached the South Pole before Scott, not Shackleton, who on his attempt turned back when 90 miles from the Pole. He recognised that the men were no longer capable of further struggle, so he exercised great leadership to bring them back to base camp. To me, Ernest Shackleton is a true hero and exemplary leader of men.

Brother, you are one hell of a storyteller. That's a compliment. I don't mean stories as in lies, but just in telling the story of Shackleton, his crew, and the Endurance expedition. You kept me interested the entire time. I am loving your videos. Thank you.

Who the hell would want to go to the South Pole anyway? It's unequivocably crap, with absolutely no redeeming features of any kind. So, sort of like Bradford, albeit for fundamentally different reasons.
