I feel like the TF-39 is noticeably better than all of the other options. It has such a clarity, and pleasant brightness, that none of the other mics are close to matching. I feel like I could close my eyes and pick it out of this line up every time.
@vinceisdead60632 жыл бұрын
Depends on the voice I own all three of the original runs. The 51 is much better for higher pitched male singers or women and the 39 is much more of a typical male voice mic. 39 is one of my go to for clients. 51 is one of the best sounding mics I've ever heard on my voice and two of my clients hate using anything else. All depends on what your sound source is. Sadly theyre all awesome which hurts the pockets

I definitely like the 39 too. Maybe in a few years I'll find one on the second hand market. I wonder if the 11 was purposely made just a little more brittle sounding to differentiate it as the least expensive?

@@dre3809 I stayed with the TF11. The CK12 styled capsule with the Canrhill transformer places the mic in an ELAM 251 territory sound wise. Pair that with a 1073 styled pre with a decent OPTO compressor and you've got a vocal chain comparable to the ones used by artist like Drake and recently Jay-Z at a tenth of the cost. The idea that more expensive means better is a myth at this point. Hope that helps! lol

I have the TF29 and it's been the best sounding sub $2000 mic I've used on my vocal (and that's including several Neumann mics). I agree it wasn't a good fit for you. But it usually shines on most voices, in my experience. You have lots of high frequency content and not a lot in the bottom end... It's a great voice but not very representative of what most male voices will be throwing at this mic. I think this is an amazing mic for most singers who exist somewhere in the baritone and tenor ranges.

Hey man, if you’re choosing your 1st mic in general I recommend you to go for the Neumann by any means. It’s a workhorse and very neutral and you’ll get a very good result with every artist/ instrument. The Tf51 sounds astounding but it’s not a workhorse. It has a phenomenal detailed high end and lovely low end. It has a velvety texture and sometimes it can make other mics sound boring but sometimes it’s too much and you want a more neutral mic (that’s why the Tf51 shouldn’t be your only mic). Tf51 will make some recordings sound like a hit already and sometimes it’s just too much so it’s a matter of preference. I personally went for the Neumann 87 and everything I just told you is a review from somebody I asked about the Tf51. I’ll get the Tf51 soon as my 2nd mic. I hope this helped.

@@kma997 hey I just saw this! Thank you so much for your thorough and thoughtful response, just a little update on my mic journey so far: My dream mic is definitely a neuman u87ai, for the meantime I went with the neumann tlm49 but found it to be lacking the crisp “air” and top end I was looking for on my particular style of vocals as well as my clients and the genre I produce. I opted to get the TF51 after all, and I’m blown away! It’s warm and full while having insane detail and smoothness as well as air in the top end. By far my favorite mic I’ve yet to try out besides the u87. Thanks again for your response, cheers!

@@ПавлоВенгерко the tlm49 was great on acoustic but lacked the top end air and modern crisp I was going for especially at that price level. I thought the song was yours but then I looked up the lyrics and realized it's a cover. yet the best one out there :) (inc. the original) I'd like to know, if you're willing to share - what did the post processing include? what reverb? anything else? did they require considerably different gains (pre/post)? also, I'm wondering - could it be that in 4:15, the video shows the 103 but the sound is still from the 39? Anyway thanks a lot for the video (and the other one about tube mics). I have a 103 and love it, and I thought about getting the TF11 but after seeing this I think I'll go for the 39.

Thank for the time and effort making this video. Very interesting choice of microphones. But I get to hear only a few seconds of each mike (solo channel playback) .... And your mouth is almost always not align with the capsules of the microphones .... mostly too low. And you are moving a lot compared to the close mike position of the test. I like to hear mikes tested in that close mike position, but then the position of the singer should be always exactly the same. Best wishes and all the best for you
