People seem to forget these Zillas are grunters, which is great for the dunes, and btw your build sounds healther than 70% of the old 2 Stroke Suzuki LT's running the dunes here out West. Almost like everyone has forgotten how to tinker on these things, glad to see ya'll are the exception. Also Damn, no pliers required! You and John need to hit up a Fitness KZbinr, or even JujiMufu's place for a episode of grip gauntlet, a day of riding, and quad inspired workouts. For a budget build you did fine with the ole Zilla. Most folks would have walked away with the case damage you had. I went through the same scenario on a 89 CR250R frame up job. Kudos Mike.

Got the ole daisy thrasher running good.. Mike this is coming from a guy that’s 41 and has been throwing a leg over a quad since he was 4, I’ve rode, worked on and owned nearly every quad made and I’ll say I like the way you work on them and how you do the rebuilds. You’re meticulous like myself and like to do things in a step process like you do as well. . I find that less things get missed or done wrong this way. Even tho we ran a powersports shop for a few years like yourself Im not a certified powersports tech but I’ve been wrenching on them as long as I could turn a wrench. I appreciate that you and John are still enjoying stomping gears on atvs and haven’t started throwing a walking cane in a rubber-band driven SxS yet.lol.. Not to say there not fun and I wouldn’t be opposed to having one as a secondary, but they will never have the seat of the pants thrill like a atv or dirt bike.. If Y’all ever get down to Kentucky we’ve got a few good spots to rip around on.

Hey Brother zilla owners. I bought mine new in 1987 (early 88 model), still have it. First off thanks for doing these video's, you're a natural at that. Some advice from me. You will soon realize how heavy the zilla steering is. It's the 10 degree castor angle (pretty much a chopper). You mentioned a 250R, they have a 5 degree angle, it's like power steering. Adjustable a-arms....dial it back to 0 degrees, super easy steering (I did it to mine and can ride all day now). Also, a lightened flywheel really makes her hit hard..common mod done to stock flywheel. I had my porting done at Duncan Racing ( National Kit). Go to the web page, awesome zilla carb tuning info, and they have info about everything too, Technical pages section...incredibly easy to follow. Love your videos...no annoying music, just 2 stroke noise....thanks.

Put a vent line on the cases or you WILL get dirt and water in there! The fitting is right behind the left rear cylinder base stud. It runs up under the gas tank. The lower coolant line is awful close to the pipe. Check your routing in your book. Also, the fender brace is missing, so that might hurt your fenders. Changing jets in a overgrown field? Ballsy. Funny that John calls it a couch. Loren Duncan describes it like that too. A "big fast couch" I believe.

If you ride and build a lot of two strokes, you can feel if it's too lean or rich without even needing to plug chop it. Boggy or delay too rich. Hanging idle or not revving out just falling flat up top too lean on the needle/main jet.

Hell I'm an old school 2 stroke guy for life and I've always been told to break it in like you ride it. I've had and rebuilt many badass 250Rs and banshees and master blasters and almost every 2 stroke dirt bike made and I always fire it up and let it idle a bit as soon as I get it back together and rev it a bit and listen for any noises in the motor and let it warm up a bit and kill it and let it cool and if everything seems good I'll take it out and putt around and get it all warmed up so it's not breaking up and if everything still sounds good I let her rip just like I would any other time and have never had any issues with the 2 strokes that way I would not do a 4 stroke break in like this though but with the 2 strokes I never have them bore the cylinders super tight tolerance wise to the piston because they will want to try and seize up a bit once they get really warm with this break in method once everything cools down it will free back up and just takes a little more care to break it in but with not so tight of tolerances you will be just fine breaking it in like you ride it.

Deff sounds better at the end. I think u should try going down to a 165 to see if it goes lean there. Run a plug chop so u know for sure where ur at. So that way when u get to the dunes u will truly know what size to jet up to. Or once u get the real carb on there do that. But yeah ur hella close lol sounds mint now and rips way better!!!!!
@MichaelSabo
@MichaelSabo 2 жыл бұрын
I think you're right; going down further would make a more crisp top end but we are going to be switching the carb anyways so we didn't go any further on the china carb

@@MichaelSabo for sure. But ya I always go past where I think its good, run a chop, verify its lean at that jet size. Then ill go back up a size or 2 and shes mint. Dialing in my 521 shee this weekend!!! Sooo wish maine wasn't so far from legends tour...can't wait to see that footage, tons of sweet bikes there!!!

With the KFX? Yes. The Quadzilla is a lot quieter than the KFX, we didn't even ride it in this video except to get me to the basin; it literally hurts your ears in person.

Nice video! Love the Quadzilla. So question on making pilot, main, and needle changes all at once? I have learned the hard way that plug chopping is the only safe way of jetting rather than by the seat of your pants / feel. Keep up the awesome videos! Your history of CPI was super cool as well!

Unless the Keihin or Mikuni is completely destroyed rebuild it. You can find good in used oem carbs and just rebuild it

Ya man I have an 88 LT 500quadzillz an the92 LT 250 quad racer never buy the Chinese parts specially whenever ur talking about carburetors the Chinese ones are just junk, always try to find the original parts if you can first obviously but believe it or not the LT 250 quadracer I have the powerbands are incredible it gives the 500 a run for it's money,you gotta try to find a the LT 250 watch how impressed ull be,I like the thumb throttle personally but if ur goin all-day it would make more sense to get the hand throttle coz they sell the throttle peice for ur hand like they sell for st bikes that helps ur hand from hurting when it out all-day it just snaps on over the hand throttle an u can hold it down with the palm of your hand sick it's mostly for st bikes since u got the hand throttle just something you might not Wana look into but awesome video man keep that 500 forever ive been offered 10gs for mine even the 250 there gettin harder to find yr by yr takecare man

When the carb gets hot the threaded holes expand, and cross threading becomes a greater risk.
