This Mortar Buff Is FIRE. BTD6 / Bloons TD 6 - the underutilized burny stuff crosspath with the middle path mortars got some more love, but is it enough to warrant going over the superior top path? Check it out in this 2 megapops showcase.

i like 2tc as a tower showcase more than 2mp personally. i feel like with 2 mega pops the absurd amount of buffs you give to a tower tends to obscure the true strength of a tower (since everything looks good with an overlock, alch buff, call to arms, etc). 2tc tends to show the tower with much less support so we can truly see its strengths, while also showing towers that can cover for its weaknesses.

*i also made this comment before having finished the video. the fact that isab went for exactly the buffs i expected (but then adding the bloon sabotage which i forgot about) also proves why 2tc is superior. 2mp is kinda repetitive since there's only so many buffs you can give to a tower to allow it to get 2mp.

the issue can arise that some 2TC combo's are just... not good/ can't work at all, meaning that 1 of the towers (which could be a meta tower that just has to be with the newly buffed tower) will steal a good majority of the spotlight too... for certain towers i agree a 2tc would be better, but for quite a few others... 2tc would just do the opposite and basically not show off the tower's true strengths. Though, it's all a matter of opinion in the funny monkey game

Instead of higher damage on the burny stuff with middle path, it should have a faster tick rate. Top path is the path that increases the burny stuff damage Middle path is the path that should increase the burny stuff duration and tick rate Maybe it's just me, I like variety.

try staircase challenge where 1st monkey is 0-0-0, 2nd can be upgraded once, 3rd twice (either 1-0-1 or 2-0-0) etc. so 8th monkey can be for example 5-0-2. and the rule resets to the 1st step after that and to spice it up you can use each tower only once. You could also try it with ultimate crosspathing but that would get messy.

I think there is an issue of showcasing this change with a 2mp, in that the bottom crosspath is going to be the one that buffs worse. Because a chunk of the damage is from a DOT, attack speed buffs aren't going to be as effective on it, because they don't buff the DOT. Maybe it would have made sense to show off the buff by pairing it with final harmonic, as that is the only real tower to synergize with DOT effects.

Yea, it would be interesting maybe to retain the 2mp, but for 2 towers instead of one, so in this case the added pops of mortar and mermonkey pops should be the target 2mp. Wonder what other Tower combos could be interesting with these rules.

issue becomes that the tighter gap and longer game can lead to some frustration if he ever messes up and the room for error is already annoying enough for some towers... (not to mention MANY solo towers get destroyed by late game Freeplay rounds, even with massive buffs)

It would have been cool to see you utilize more of the lane switching in game to save pops for the mortar. The ninja and darts could have been placed on one side which only got switched to for the rounds that needed them, and I think that would have been a pretty cool way to utilize the mechanic more actively, especially within the context of the 2 megapops challenge

Weird how one of the buffs to this was to double the duration of the burn status effect, given how fast it attacks. As far as I can tell, the only real benefit is that the ability also inflicts a decently strong burn across the entire map now, so in that situation this crosspath might be decent. Otherwise it's still pretty bad, _especially_ if you happen you be using a 502 mortar. If you use them both, the 052 will override the burns from 502, which do 6x more damage over time that you're now missing out on.

Math was done, 052 does better in nearly every situation with more consistent sceram dmg and overall dps. And if your using biggest one with paa you won't even be targeting scerams with paa so the dot override doesn't really matter

2MP isn't boring and my idea isn't great for showcasing a lot, but I like challenges involving minimum spending or minimum tiers.

i think standard 2mp is a great way to showcase a tower, though so many buffs kind of makes the tower showcase a bit more about how good it is with every single buff available and gets repetitive after a while, as other commenters pointed out 2tc is the next thought, though some commenters have also pointed out that its also repetitive and can simply rely on the other tower to do most of the heavy lifting, plus theres only so many towers to 2tc with so we'd likely get a list of usual suspects between the two, i think 2mp is better personally because you still will have some of these buffs applied at times, and it can still be a showcase of the tower's strengths, just greatly magnified through use of villages, alcs, etc i think some more interesting things could be how viable is it in something like half cash/imchad(ichad for non-magic monkeys), where buffs are less available and its a lot harder to progress without maximizing the best parts of your towers, more specifically your best one, though issues arise if other things simply carry it to completion or if you can't afford it in a mode like that for a more comfortable change, i also like the idea of a sort of least cash/tiers way to play 2mp, save as much money as you can instead of spending it all on buffs, show off how good something is by seeing how much wiggle room you have for a 2mp in the middle of your strat - it gives us the chance to see the unbuffed version of a tower, and then how it is with slight buffs, and it slowly increasing until we see how much it needs to get something like a 2mp, when it needs said thing and why, and how many tiers or how much cash was left over can give a good indicator to how a tower preformed compared to other towers there's definitely better ideas but i just wanted to throw these out there

I think doing less strict rules could be good, like for some towers a 2mp isn't the best showcase for their strengths, for some it is but for example if like master bomber got buffed, instead of 20 shinobi + perma brew, showing it and a cleanup like middle path druid with money to spare could be a better showcase for it's strengths.

A good way to make both crosspaths viable might be making top path deal plain more Dot damage, and middle path deal less damage than top but in quicker ticks. Kind of the classic fire rate vs damage dps increase

I think the only way to make the bottom cross path good on the middle path mortar would be to let the burning DOT stack up to a point. Maybe 2 stacks for 0-4-2, and 5 stacks for 0-5-2. If they want middle path to be at all competitive it needs to actually have a niche that’s not fulfilled as well by anything else. A strong DOT that affects massive amounts of bloons, with global range… that could actually be useful. As it is now, I’d rather have a different tower than use mortar.

I think in high dps buffs you could try a boss run that focuses heavily on said tower. Would pose a fun challenge and maybe also be though to complete.

I think instead of 2MPs you could do strategy substitutions. Like adopt the skeleton of another strat and sub out one of the key parts with the newly buffed tower. Like for mortar I'd start off with one of the bomb tower spam strats with striker, like recursive spam or mauler spam, and then instead of continuing down that path, pivot to mortar mid-late. Showing what parts of a major strategy a tower can replace is more useful than simply showing that it is generally powerful, imo.

Idk if it's late to reply but I think the mortar monkey needs something similar as the dartling gunner and the emergency unlock monkey knowledge where if you activate the ability it starts following your mouse and you have to manually set it back to target a specific target

I do think that 2mp gets a bit stale because fundamentally there's not much difference between the runs, and it always feels more like a showcase of how good (possibly too good) some buffs are rather than how good a tower is. I've always preferred 2TC challenges, or maybe even something more flexible like 4TC or 5TC; it's fun to see how different towers work together, and personally I've always been fond of strategies that rely on synergies rather than raw numbers. Just because a challenge is more relaxed doesn't mean that it's less fun to watch; in fact I feel like it's more fun if you can at any given point do something unexpected like drop a bottom path Ice because you can, or use something unusual like... well, at this point Beast Handler feels pretty unusual, so maybe that.

I somehow only just now realized that middle path mortar's gimmick is basically the same as middle path boomerang. Biggest difference is that middle path mortar's ability also stuns. Other than that, they're the same gimmick.
