a rubber duck works as a level for the water in a bath. it's much easier to see than clear water, so if you're filling up a tub you can see the water level easily from a distance or if you have your glasses/contacts off. i just made this up but it seems legit

This film really downplays the Dursleys. In the book, Harry was treated like a prisoner until Fred, George and Ron saved him. I'm talking being fed once a day through a flap on the bottom of the door, only being let out twice a day to use the bathroom, and being completley ignored otherwise.
@Darkvalient233 ай бұрын
Hermione doesn't care about being called a mud-blood, in the books. she wasn't raised around magic so it doesn't mean anything to her. in the books it's all Ron explaining that to harry in hagrid's hut, and it's Ron and Hagrid that are upset about it while harry and hermione are just learning the word. this is one example of Ron's character being diminished for the movies. it was supposed to show him defending hermione more and he is the one who knows the most about the wizarding world in general of the main 3. the lines are given to hermione instead and this scene is just him throwing up slugs for gross comedy lol

@@Delta-sj9dyExactly. There are some things that you can't learn from reading books and the only understand by living in a different culture. Ron has been in this world since birth, so there are always certain things he understands at a moment's notice that Harry and Hermione just wont, or _shouldn't_ pick up on.

The "I didn't know you could read" line was off adlibbed. Malfoy's actor was on point and had a lot of off script lines that fit his character well giving him a much more natural performance.
@i.marchand46552 ай бұрын
A couple of other ad libs in this movie that were quite good. One, when Lucious said something about Harry "being around to save the day," Harry's answer ("Don't worry, I will be") was unscripted. The other was right after that when Mr. Malfoy "kicked" Dobby down the stairs. For a minute the crew thought he had half-tripped, but he made the kicking motion knowing that they could add Dobbie as CGI, and he felt it was quite in character. It's really too bad, in a way, about all the ad libs in these movies. For instance, Felton's comment to Goyle came out because Tom had forgotten his line, If these folks were all better actors, we might not have had all the ad-libs to enjoy. 😜
@marshallpeters71742 ай бұрын

Aragog and his children are Acromantulas which is a species of magical spider. When Hagrid brought Aragog to the Forbidden Forest he also found a female Acromantula named Mosag to be his wife and that's why he has such a large family. Hagrid thought that Aragog wouldn't hurt his friends because he often visits Aragog and he's always fine. However, the only reason the other spiders didn't eat Hagrid was because Aragog ordered them not to.

Harry actually was moved into Dudley's "second" bedroom in the first book, when the letters started coming. Since the first letter was addressed to Harry at "the cupboard under the stairs", Vernon thought it would throw them off if he moved. The next letter was addressed to "the smallest bedroom". The final letter, that Hagrid hand-delivered, was addressed to "the floor, hut on the rock, the sea". Just pointing out why Harry had a bedroom at the start of this movie.

They overdo Hermione's role in the movies imo. She's definitely brilliant in the books, she comes up with a lot of solutions, but in the movies they take a lot of big moments from other characters (like Ron) and give them to her. After his first letter from Hogwarts arrived, the Dursleys moved him from the cupboard to the bedroom, not out of kindness, but out of hope that the "change of address" would prevent Hogwarts from contacting him.

I think this might be the first time they were on that set. 11:15 "I wonder if they had a body double for Hagrid? Because, that man looks like 7 foot tall next to those kids. Yes, Robbie Coltraine is 6'1", his body double (former rugby player Martin Bayfield) is 6'10", but even then, they had to use (1) specially designed sets with scaled props, (2) high-heeled shoes to increase his height, and (3) an animatronic head that Martin wore as a hat.

7:21 I like how one of the options of where the Weasley kids might be is prison 😂 Colette, one of the filming tricks you may appreciate (since you mentioned Hagrid's height a few times) was how they made him look bigger. In the books, Hagrid is described as being twice as tall as the average man. In the movie, he's supposed to be 8'6" but Robbie Coltrane was just over 6'. They used forced perspective when filming him, placing him in the foreground so he'd appear bigger. Filming up, from a student's viewpoint, makes him look taller. They had a much larger body double for when he was shot from behind, or at a distance. They also used props of different sizes. The motorcycle he rode in on, at the beginning of the first film, was smaller than standard, to make him look bigger. They had a larger version of his hut, when the camera was on other people, and a smaller version of his hut, for when Hagrid was on camera, to make him look bigger.

If you visit the UK, the Harry Potter Studio on the outskirts of London is worth a visit. They have all the sets and props from the movies there and a lot of information on how certain bits were filmed. It is a very entertaining day out even if you are not into the stories. To the questions asked around 1:02:52 The reason the kids are clearly more capable than the adults in HP is because its a kids book/film. Its something you see a lot of in fiction aimed at younger audiences. As the kids get older this is still the case but it feels less silly since the kids are older and have obviously learned more, plus you see how capable the adults actually are later in the series too.

12:11 Draco Malfoy rips a page out of a book. This is one of those 'movie only' scenes that seem to imply something - some people believe that Malfoy is ripping out a page about the basilisk, which Hermione finds just before she's petrified. I think that the director and editor put this scene in because Tom Felton (who plays Draco) is a good kid, and they wanted to imply that Draco wasn't as evil as he seemed. 16:27 "I think that Neville's a character, too, that we're going to see a ton of growth from." Matthew Lewis is like Jerry O'Connell (fat kid from 'Stand by Me'). They start out playing geeks, and you're thinking, "They're never going to get a girlfriend," and then you turn around and they're doing underwear ads.

Salazar wasn’t as simple as some may think. The histories go far back to when people were being murdered & other crazy things between muggles & the wizard kind(think witch hunts and all that screwed up stuff we all know about). He was actually desiring to create this place to not just be a place of learning & curating knowledge but also a fortress against intruders! It’s a longer history that goes into several articles & channels showing this. This was to protect the children and all of wizard kind. SOME of the halfbloods long ago were used as pawns and essentially moles into the wizarding communities. Even back than sure not all hit it’s the ROOT of the judgment upon halfbloods & Muggleborns. Those like Lucius are practicing a tradition that was once noble that had stronger roots & traditions. It’s so far from that now that most families have fallen into mania. But not his wife. His wife is very cool & is only protecting Malfoy and teach him the ways of that realm and how to act and behave etc etc. He’s more like his mother & loves his mother! she grew up in the Black family tree & her original tree was related to Ravenclaws and had to change their name to something else to keep the line alive. Also. The basilisk was for that reason alone. To defend against intruders & infiltration; perhaps even to weed out LEGIT moles who were bringing danger to wizard kind but of course Voldemort had other plans since he was still Tom Riddle. Salazar also was the only one to match Rowena Ravenclaw’s mind and originally they were to be betrothed. But ended up with Godric! ❤️
