These New Eldrazi are BUSTED! Legacy Challenge Top 8 with MH3 Eldrazi Aggro | MTGO | Maxtortion

While Grief is inexplicably still legal in Legacy, it defines a metagame for those determined to break. By skillfully combining the Modern Horizons 3 Eldrazi cards with Thought-Knot Seer and a Legacy manabase, Maxtortion demolishes several Grief Scaminator decks in his June 29th Legacy Challenge run!

This is awesome, I'm glad the Eldrazi deck got some updates with MH3. Is it no longer worth running Chalice of the Void in Eldrazi? I know Eldrazi Stompy decks as recently as last year ran Chalice, but maybe it's not worth it anymore?

@@XR_TRON the verdict is still out on Chalice, but the majority of lists are running it. I don’t believe it’s bad, but as of right now, I prefer the cards I’m running over it. It’s a little hard to reliably cast turn 1 in this list, and the combo decks are pretty well-suited toward beating it, since they combo with mostly 0s but have veil of summer. This means that if you play it on zero, they just veil and combo off, and if you set it to 1, they can ignore it. Very good against Delver when you’re on the play, but so is presenting a threat. On the draw, spending your first turn not presenting a threat feels like a way to lose the race.

Missed lethal R6G2 2:32:14. Playing Linebreaker -> Linebreaker gives you 6 eldrazi in play going into combat. That's 18 trampling power + 2 from Fleshraker, and you can still cast the Flute off the spawns after the Linebreaker triggers resolve.

I'm very confused at why at 39m49s your wastescape battlemage costs only 1 colorless and 1 blue when kicked. Shouldn't the kicker still cost 1U even if Eye of Ugin is in play?

Utilizing the kicker increases the cost of the spell as it's being cast, so Eye of Ugin sees that. To break it down, the Wastescape battlemage's base cost of 1C is added to the kicker cost of 1U, creating a total cost of 2CU to kick it with the bounce mode. To cast Wastescape Battlemage with that kicker, I have to pay 2CU. Since Eye of Ugin sees the 2CU cost and reduces it by 2 (generic), I end up with CU as the cost requirement that I had to actually tap mana to pay. Let me know if that wasn't clear, since it's a definitely a bit weird.

17:20 I don't understand why you don't just cast a command for x=2 , made 2 spawn and draw or exil the battlemage , and than cast your 2 heralds ( you can also cast command twice in the same process) You are at 3 anyway , you die to fleshraker in many topdecks , you have to find your red sources this turn , I think double command was the right way , will be happy to have your point of view about this :)

I didn't think that any card drawn that turn would change my play of double Herald, and wanted my next draw step already in hand / known to me, so I could make my decisions with the Kozilek's Commands with the most information available. It's pretty minor, but it's why I decided that sequencing.

i really think a urborg would be nice in this deck. nothing is better than a eye of ugin that can tap for mana. also helps with your ancient tombs not dealing a lot of damage, cost for dismember becomes better and when leyline of the void gets bounced, you can recast it. all tutorable by sowing when you need.

I was playing a Yavimaya (green is relevant, not black/Urborg) until very recently, and think it's a solid inclusion. It just didn't make the cut as I wanted the lands I'm currently playing more than Yavimaya.

Thanks! I'm really proud of how I played that, as early as Turn 1, deciding that I was going to try to "break serve" by leveraging my opponent's Ancient Tomb to my advantage. I think if I had played most defensively, I would've been crushed. Go go Eldrazi Linebreaker!
