I love the new slicer. With hard to remove supports it's definitely something with how different filaments behave but sometimes even on the same brand they just pop off and sometimes they are stuck but if you blow a little hot air on them to warm up connection a little they are very easy to remove.

There is also a slider for highlighting overhangs. I have found this to be very helpful in painting supports in Bambu slicer. It looks like there is the same option here. There is an enforce button that makes it so you can only paint on the highlighted area. This makes it much easier to avoid painting supports in areas that dont need it.

Great overview! Glad you are finally looking at moving away from S3D. I think PrusaSlicer is really innovating so much these days and not even charging a dime! Being an alpha I think the pin thing will be fixed before the major release, but I had the same issue with the pins! Play with the manual painting with the brush as well, I think you will find it very similar to the painting in S3D that you are currently using!

I've never used Prusa slicer, and I've been asking around but no response yet. I was wondering if after you add the tree supports if you can then save/export the model file with them on there. Much like how people make pre-supported miniatures for resin printers to send out.
@jrh2023
@jrh2023 Жыл бұрын
I just tried exporting as an stl it did not save the supports in place when I loaded it back up I'm assuming it's because the supports are generated by slicing and specific to your g code so they would need to make a pre slicing tree model adding feature which would be dope but don't think they would wanna deal with considering they just got tree supports in alpha but I'd send em an email would be a dope feature just have no clue how hard it would be to do

Used to be Netfabb did it automatically or meshmixer manually (or of course just 3d software you could do it manually) and then luban came along and did a.......decent job of it.....not perfect but decent, now Prusa takes it on so maybe Cura will have that feature soon also!

You basically can’t print anything needing supports as the supports print rock solid. What 3D printer would you recommend we graduate to? Looking to spend under $500 and want to be able to print really large things like masks and also want it to be really easy to use as we are beginners, thanks!! Love the channel!

Can confirm, PrusaSlicer 2.6 is GLORIOUS. I keep hopping back and forth between Cura and Prusa depending on the print need, but now I might just settle in with Prusa for a while since it does almost everything. Having the profiles for Elegoo right there is also soooo nice rather than hunting something down and tweaking it. Only 'gotcha' was the profile disables the power loss recovery for Neptune 3, but apparently that fixes some quality issues I wasn't even aware of lol

I've had a really poor experience so far with the Prusa organic supports. They seem to fail 4/5 times, and I've tried many different settings in the slicer to get them to work. I've added wide brims, I've slowed my printer (Elegoo Neptune 3) down considerably, I print in an enclosure, etc. and the organic supports still fail at various times during my prints. I print a lot of similar stuff to Uncle Jessy (armor, masks). I'm not sure what else to try, but I'm getting tired of failed prints and wasted filament, would have been less wasteful to just stick with Cura like I had before Prusa.

Coming back to this video to say that you should check every print to see if organic is really the best option for supports as they don't always use less material and take less time. Today I was slicing a file and accidentally forgot to switch to organic so I saw the stats for grid supports, making the switch to organic added another 20 minutes to the print and another few grams of filament. Neither of these sound like much, but it was an 11% increase in time and a 10% increase in filament usage which for bigger models could be significant. Overall I really like organic supports, but they are not the be all end all that the community seems to make them out to be.

Pretty sure the bambo slicer is based on prusa slicer and prusa slicer is based off slick3r and cura updates with tuning for the organic tree supports. So it shouldn't be very hard for them to implement the same lighweight tree supports (It actually already has it but its not quite as handy as Prusa slicer's alpha version) It would be great if they could also allow you to mask off the triangles for the plane cut like meshmixer as it can do it but the UI and process is very annoying as Autodesk just wants you to buy fusion 360 licenses now and stopped updating mesh mixer ages ago.

What's that supposed to mean? You can use Prusa slicer to generate gcode for machines running klipper since an eternity. Just choose marlin as a flavor. I am uploading directly to my voron 2.4 since years.

@@runklestiltskin_2407 SuperSlicer, in output, has a klipper selection. Otherwise the slicer generates gcode for Marlin firmware. Was looking to see if Klipper was "natively"" supported.

@@tonykyle2655 it probably only optimizes small things for klipper like macros etc. Ive used Marlin Flavor since i installer klipper and had no issues

@@TheHelpMaster I too have used PrusaSlicer and Cura for the v400 which runs Klipper. Was only asking a question. Is it wrong to ask a question?

@@tonykyle2655 I have not found one downside from changing from superslicer to prusa slicer. Just saying, the gcode flavor doesn't really matter.

I've been using tree supports in Meshmixer for years. Tbh, it's still better than either tree supports, cura or prusa.
