@sapiescentАй бұрын
In the car-centric USA of abandoned malls and bleak parking lots, with kids raised by the parents of the Stranger Danger PSA era which warned against all the predators lurking through the streets... is it really that surprising? Plenty of public libraries have been closing. More and more land becomes privately owned by someone who wants to keep them out. More and more kids raised in rented apartments where inviting a bunch of friends over might not be the best idea. Where can they safely hang out aside from school grounds - especially if, say, they stop going to the same school? When there's no practically feasible group activities to be done in person (often because engaging activities cost money), why would they not turn to the world of infinite possibilities online? Why constantly try to figure out a good time to meet up with a friend in person (and keep getting held up for one reason or another) if all you're gonna do is talk?

Cellphones ain't the problem. In fact, it's a handy thing to have nowadays. It's social media, that's the problem. Especially Instagram and TikTok. So many kids don't know what it's like to go outside and hang out with friends WITHOUT being on their phones. It's like concerts now. People barely enjoy the show. They just record the whole time 😒🤦♂️

I would mostly agree. Take away social media, and there goes 99% of the problem for 99% of the people. I'm not on social media any more but still have to fight my cellphone use because of KZbin and other apps on my phone. But when I got off of social media, I got 99% of my life back. This is a real serious problem and it's inspiring to see some teenagers that aware.
@ritaamor2832 ай бұрын
I don’t think it’s just social media. Although that’s the biggest problem and it’s made to be addictive and numbing, literally designed and redesigned to be a drug. But I see that, not just teens, adults also, people are addicted to just reach for the phone for everything. To search a word, this and that. I had this conversation with friends “just think a bit before immediately reaching for the phone”, usually an idea, or a meaning, or a solution comes first, we just have to give our brains a little more time.

OMG I KNOW THESE KIDS. I was part of their club two years ago, I won’t say which school for privacy reason but I’ll just say that they were some of the most down to earth genuine people in the school. I’m in a different school now but it’s cool to see my buddies getting the recognition they deserve. Unfortunately I got the internet again but I deleted everything except Reddit and KZbin lol. I’ve found that personally, the punk scene (specifically sXe) is a great outlet for leaving behind the effects of post modern late stage capitalism. Social media is arguably the worst thing to happen to our generation. Glad to see our movement is growing. :)

I was a teen when Myspace Facebook and the like came out, but i do remember growing up without them too, millennials were fortunate to get to see both, and yes social media has been great for businesses but destructive for ppl. Who would've thought that an app that was created to be like a BOOK of college girl's FACEs so that guys could rate them would ever be appropriate for teenagers to be on, Zuckerberg doesn't even let his own kids on his app, that's what we call a red flag....im very glad to see that some of the youth are waking up despise many of their parents falling into the trap...the cycle can end with you, be careful how you raise your future kids with this tech. I hear parents now talking about how they would love to get their kids off of their devices but it's too difficult to do, but the reality is that parents do not want to lead by example and they can't put down the devices either. 😊Be the change you wanna see❤&to good mental health🎉
