The Manga came out in 1987. Nobody had enough courage to properly animate it as a television show, so only two OVAs came out, but based only on Part 3. A third OVA movie based on Part 1 came out somewhere in the 2000s, but it's lost media. Finally, in 2012, it started premiering as a television show.

basically the jojo title is passed down the family, JOnathan JOestar, JOseph Jostar, JOtaro kuJO, JOsuke higashikata (the kanji for suke can be read as jo) GIOrno GIOvana, JOlyne kuJO, JOhnyJOestar, JOsuke higashikata (same name different person its complicated) and the new guy that deals drugs and i dont remember the name of

Jojo's main power system is Stands (called like that because they usually stands close to the user, but there are exceptions like remote controlled Stands or automatic Stands). They are named after Tarot cards when they are introduced, but later on switch to band names or artists that the mangaka likes (Metallica, Notorious BIG, Man in the Mirror etc.). Stands are manifestation of the user's will to fight and can have wild powers: there's one called Planet Waves that can call mini meteors from space to hit his opponent with, or, one of my favorite, Sticky Fingers can create zipper on anything that it touches (at one point, he creates a zipper on a pole and tries to guillotine a guy with it or when he creates a zipper along a wall of a building and rides it up to the roof)

From part 4 (5th to 7th opening) onwards all the character abilities (those creatures that stand next to them) are named after music references. Like Killer Queen, Stone Free, Purple Haze, Spice girls, etc.
