Alocasia Green Shield, the pot really needs to be upsized…dramatically, Claire. ❤ They need a lot if space for their roots in order to grow big and get more leaves.
@tarantula_girl.Ай бұрын
I apologize in advance if I write a novel but here are some of my thoughts: The begonia, was it recently repotted? They hate change and that could cause that kind of behviour. Also maybe it needs more consistent moisture, a self watering situation, and possibly more light? I have no idea how you're keeping it now, and couldn't see what kind of pot or mix it was in. I have all my begonia in self watering pots with chunky mixes. They'd be dead if I didn't. And a lot of them under very bright grow lights. They love light. The only other thing I thought of was it could be acting like it has flat mites. They grow really good till the population gets large enough then they just stop. They don't die or crash they just stop. The Anthurium Green Shield. Never owned one of these but I'll just tell you what popped in my head. Did you see the size of the pot of the big beautiful one? Sometimes they need space to stretch out. Upsizing the pot might help. IDK. You know I'm a Hoya head so here is what I would do with the linearis. I'd take nice long cuttings of anything that is still green and toss the rest. Just start over. Wait about 2 hours for the ends to dry then soak them in room temp water with any kind of restorative fertilizer you may have. They can soak for several hours and as epiphytes will be able to hydrate a bit and absorb some nutrients that way. Then I would root them in water in one of your cabinets (I'm just thinking about hydration for them.) Once you have 1/2 inch of root (you don't need much with them) I'd pot them in a no drainage self watering situation. That is how I keep linearis and she's consistently growing and I always keep some water in the resevoir. Linearis comes from a part of the world where it rains every day and they hang down from trees so they absolutely LOVE humidity, and consistent moisture. Make the chunkiest, airiest mix you can and put her in self watering or no drainage. You can even prop her in that. Actually that might be better than water. Yeah hoya always do best when rooted in the mix they will be living in, and a nice humid spot in your cabinet while she roots. It doesn't have to be too bright or too warm, just enough to grow some roots. She should bounce back for you in a few weeks. Then, she'll love it if you spray her regularly. Probably the only plant I'd recommend spraying, but linearis loves it. I just found flat mites on a buch of my hoya and so that's on my brain right now. But being microscopic, it might be worth it to get one of those little microscopes that you can use with your phone and check. Or just treat the ones that are acting wierd with sulphur. Plants like sulphur so it won't hurt to try and it's easy to spray on. Ugh I tried really hard to not write a novel. Much love from Canada.

I’ve had spider mite like damage on my plants. No webs no visible pests. I wonder if it’s flat mites!!!!! Do you treat them the same as any pest. I feel like the systemics barely works.
@tarantula_girl.Ай бұрын
@amberfrazier575 Nooo most pesticides don't work on them. You need a very specific type of systemic for them that I can't get in Canada. Don't even know what it's called. However, mix 2 tbsp of sulphur dust (has to be powder form) into a one litre spray bottle and drench every inch of your plant. Then just put it back on the shelf. It stinks. It's messy. You need gloves and a mask cause it'll irritate your skin. But the plants love it. A lot of house plants are sulfur deficient anyways. Gotta leave it on for 2 months to get the whole lifecycle. It's pain in the a** but it works. Most people notice their plants putting out new growth and even flowering within a month of treatment. You may want to reapply at the one month mark but just see how much is still left on the plant. It may not be necessary. Mixing with sulfur with oils, (neem oil etc) will burn the leaves so be sure the plants have nothing else on them before you start spraying. Good luck!

I also thoroughly cleaned the area the plants were sitting, isolated the plants, and spray them down as needed periodically. I hear you on the space issue with crawlers! I have learned to embrace the chop especially when it comes to my crawlers and just chop them up into smaller 1-2 leaf pieces when they get too long. Then I’ll rearrange several of those smaller bits into one (usually round…don’t love trough planters) pot to give them a full, bushier look and give away/sell any leftovers. If I position the cuttings right, I usually have months and maybe even up to a year before they reach the end of the pot again. Hope that’s helpful and thanks for this video!

I had all the issues you spoke about, since moving to SH it's grown to over 6ft long and has flowered. And in regards to the dean, I have a plowmanii I just couldn't part with but I'm limiting myself for now to 3 leaves (as their big) then sharing the rest. Claire!! I have a cotton yarn going from the water reservoir in to the pot with pon, and connecting to the moss pole touching the moss, and on top of the pon I have another layer of moss. They go absolutely crazy in this set up, even the difficult ones. You could give it a try. Also check the species natural elevation, anthuriums that grow in higher elevation prefer colder temperatures.

Hi Claire. I think your struggles with the drymonia might have been with my bad advice when I sent it. I genuinely thought I kept it well watered in moss at all times and after looking at what I've actually been doing with it lately, I've been letting it dry out completely between waterings (in moss). For some reason I thought I'd been keeping it well watered. I'll send you new pics of mine and if you would like any more cuttings of it, let me know as mine is getting rather big.

The anthurium metallicum likes it quite cold, maybe that's the issue? It's found in the Andean Mountain Range in cloud forests, so it doesn't necessarily like typical tropical conditions. And it is an epiphyte/ subshrub like most anthurium ^^
@vickiswanton5489Ай бұрын
I wonder if with your Begonias it is a fungal issue. Perhaps removing affected leaves and treating with a fungicide - natural or not - will help? Your anthuriums - I'd definitely consider semi-hydro for them - a chunky pon or leca. You can control nutrients much more easily that way, and also add in some root nutrient as well. Your Alocasia - again, I think semi hydro in chunky leca/pon. Put in a larger pot than you think you need. When repotting - remove all corms. Your scindapsus - it really is because it wants to grow up, not trail. But, you can improve by cutting all shoots at the second node from the soil. The ones on social media have likely been planted with lots of cuttings in one pot too. Also, consider a foliar spray feed. Lastly, check PH and see how that meets with the plants requirements. You might do this already, but I don't hear you mention it usually. Oh - and the euphorbia - try a more sandy/gritty substrate. It doesn't need much in the way of nutrients either. I'd do half of what you are doing, nutrient-wise.

We’re coming to the end of the growing season for cacti and succulents so I’d leave that E. lactea alone until next April, any attempt you make to lop of the top or side arms and root will potentially be delayed anyway and could result in the cuttings rotting over winter

@Christian.LaurentАй бұрын
Your plants likely have a mineral deficiency. Highly barky substrates will leech minerals from the soil, which is mostly what you are using. Begonias like to be half dry before watering, assuming disease is not the issue. This is also worsened by the potential mineral issue. Find ways to supplement the loss of minerals, even checking PH levels.

Right now, I am struggling with a lot of my BIG philodendrons on moss poles. They are yellowing in the new growth and the old growth and growing smaller. Also for some reason a lot of the leaves are like facing the ground and not towards the light. Its not like they are dried out and drooping its like they are firmly facing the ground. They are getting good light, they have good airflow, the humidity is between 50 and 75, temps are from 23 (73) to 27 (80). I think maybe the issue is fertilizer, either too much or too little. I think maybe too little, I have never fertilized above half and even less for moss poles. But they tend to get worse once they get to be like 5ft tall. But it might also be nutrient lockout maybe. Or a ph imbalance in the substrate.
@amberfrazier575Ай бұрын
On the eurhorbia ; I would snap the new growth off at the base of the growth point so you can get a new growth point. Take your snapped bits and let them callous and put in soil… don’t let them go to waste. I’d put the philodendron On a high shelf. Like above the television? Don’t forget the grow light can bleach the leaf on the plant yellow.

We grow begonias outdoors in South Texas, but not this type, so grain of salt: They tend to go leggy in the fall, browning, dying off in the winter, and if you're lucky, they come back in the spring. I mention this because your lighting changes *drastically* more than in Texas, and begonias notice. It may even notice under a grow light deep in your house and fairly far from the window. Extra lighting for the winter after a chop back may help.

Love the video! I think the issue with the euphorbia has to do with its very sectoral variegation… so the same thing that makes it so beautiful will make it hard to get consistent coloration in future growth. Think of the sectoral variegation on a vining plant… you may get all green or ghost leaves. Bottom line: The variegation of the euphorbia will depend on the areole where the new growth originates. If a green section pushes out a branch, it will be all green. If a white section is where new growth comes from, the new growth will be ghosty. Nick Alexander had a trick for controlling where new growth comes from on a reverted plant. It was on his Hoya Lisa. May want to check that out, as it works!

I would leave the euphorbia alone. See what new growth brings. Once it's bigger then chop if nothing changes

I received my euphorbia white ghost unrooted cutting about 4-5 months ago and it still hasn't grown any roots! I've dipped it in rooting hormone and it receives sunlight and is under a grow light. I don't know what else to do to encourage it to grow roots. Any suggestions?

How do not get fungus gnats if you water soil from above?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a healthy anthurium on this channel 😢 they must be very troublesome indeed

Try giving Anthurium less light

Begonia-water quality finally catching up? You use straight tap water, right? If it has a lot of minerals/chlorine, begonias get ticked off. Just a thought…

Don't chop the euphorbia, it has gone dormant for any reason, give it another year.
@valikpetrov6804Ай бұрын
But not only the light, it also needs about 30-40 degrees Celsius to get going

Please don't cut your white Ghost. Just leave it alone and see what happens. Hang onto it, it might turn out to really surprise you.

thanks for the video! seriously, though ... if you did wrap your head around a plant, wouldn't that block the light so that the plant couldn't get any? not to mention the effects on your head. i mean ... i'm not an expert, but ... still.

I commented a few times before and I guess I was on your nerves. I'm Chinese and not White. I make absolutely no money from my videos, and I have no, zero, nada business. I don't sell anything. I'm here really because I'm a hobbyist. I'm not even interested in you. I'm only interested in your talking about plants and your plants. I agree that some anthuriums can be tricky. I have them lush for a few years. Then they decline. If I changed soil and pot, I think that was the cause. If I did not change pot, I think that was the cause. LOL! For alocasias, have another pot below your pot. Let the roots grow into the lower pot. Let there be sitting water in the lower pot and keep the upper pot on the dry side. This worked for me. They grow a lot of leaves. This is also so much easier to manage. If a large plant is always in your way, you might hang it on the celling. For the rest of the plants, my solution is: move them outdoors in spring, summer and fall. For those love shade, keep them in shade, like under a deck. For those love sun, slowly adjust them to full sun. My White ghost is adjusted to full sun. Then it is sitting in shallow water, standing in full sun. In that set up, it grows very fast and fat for me.
