I use tomato soup for a simple sloppy joe. I add a little brown sugar, ketchup, worshtershire sauce and dried or fresh onion, sometimes bell pepper. Add to cooked and drained ground beef and serve on buns.YUM

Thanks Maria! I joined your channel several days ago and haven't yet posted. Although, I am in an abundant time in my life, I do the cooking for 2 and need to find basic recipes and use the things in my kitchen! Also, with rising inflation, I never like to pay more for the same thing that is less expensive elsewhere. I love the way you take simple things and put them together to = yummy. When you waste food, not only does your bill go up, but it is wasteful. My goal is to use up everything that I buy. I also enjoy your channel for the many ideas it gives me. Nothing is worse than monotony. Looking forward to cooking with you! Thank you!

My family does not like straight canned soup. They do like our version. One can of condensed tomato soup 1/2 can water and 1/4 to 1/2 cup of salsa. Serve witj a grilled cheese sandwich. For some reason this has become our go to soup when they are home with a cold.
@cookshackcuisinista2 жыл бұрын
Great ideas Maria! I don't use much of the canned soup anymore because of the high sugar and salt. One can make a quick tomato soup with some tomato paste some broth and some full cream and a couple of tablespoons of flour to be substituted in place of the can of tomato soup! Of course you have to season it to taste with salt and pepper and whatever else you want to use but this is how I do most of my cream soups just by using broth, full cream and a few seasonings!

That’s funny bc I have really bad acid reflux & tomatoes are my downfall. A coupla years ago I decided to try using tomato soup instead of any canned tomato sauces/crushed/paste/pizza/spaghetti/whole etc. in my dishes & it really doesn’t affect my issue! Good to know there are so many tomato soup recipes I haven’t yet tried. Your dishes all looked really good & I’ll have to try them! TFS 💕

Wow this came at a perfect time I just bought 11 cans of tomato soup from the dollar tree marked down to $.25 a can and I tried it and it’s great! One way that my mom stretched meals on a budget when we were growing up was to make homemade SpaghettiOs with canned tomato soup. She would add tomato soup and butter and black pepper to pound of cooked elbow macaroni’s and serve that with some white bread and that’s what we and we love it to this day
@MealsWithMaria2 жыл бұрын
Yum! That sounds delicious. I love spaghetti-os!

Those look good! The only thing I buy tomato soup for is a recipe from my MIL for pork chops. It is basically just a method dish. S&P pork chops and brown in a hot skillet. Transfer to a baking dish and place them in one layer. On each chop layer 1 tablespoon Minute Rice, one 1/4" thick slice of onion then a dollop of the condensed tomato soup. Cover and bake for 1 hour. My change to the recipe is to use an extra amount of Minute Rice sprinkled between the chops then take another can of soup plus half a can of water and pour over the areas between the chops. Cover and bake the same. That way you get extra rice. The fat from the chops melts with the onion juices and tomato soup to make a really savory sauce and except from the browning it is a hands-off dish for a busy mom.

With the jambalaya recipe instead of Cajun seasoning you could add oregano and basil or one of those, a little garlic and make an Italian type flavor. Great stuff as always!

I was gifted a couple of cans of tomato soup and they’ve been in my pantry so long, I’m going to make the chicken n’ shrimp, AND the sandwiches, I never thought of using deli roast beef in this way! Thanks for helping me feed my family on a shoestring. We have made a decision as a family to really get frugal where we can, the kitchen is my area and I’m learning a lot from you.

I loved these ideas! We have tomato soup in our storage but I had no idea how to use them. I wasn't that excited about just the plain soup. I will try all three of these definitely. My husband and I can't eat most seafood, so I think I'll add a few Cajun sausage links to the jambalaya. Should be great with the chicken.

My own budget stretching tomato soup recipe uses cheap cuts of meat or game. Take 2 to 2 1/2 pounds of boneless meat or mostly boneless, pork shoulder chops are good, one can of tomato soup, one cup of salsa, whatever heat level you like,, a chipped onion, and two tablespoons of dark brown sugar (or whatever you have, even molasses or honey will do in a pinch.) Put the meat, in portion sizes, into a baking pan, and dump the other ingredients on top. Cover and bake 2 to 3 hours until tender. Good with mashed potatoes and homemade bread, side salad if you have it. This was born of desperation, "How do I cook moose meat *this* time?" As you might guess,we'd been eating it a lot !
