The most humbling experience I've ever had on a golf course happened back in the late 80s when I was in my mid 20s..I was asked by the starter to be a 4th for 3 old guys /retirees who were in their 70s...all day long they roped it down the middle 150 - 175 yds...2 putt every hole for par or bogey...they invited me to have a beer with them after the round and "add up the score cards, high score buys the first round"...needless to say I bought the first round. My 102 couldn't beat 79 and a pair of 81s..I never forgot that day.

Add about 5 years to that hard lesson...we showed up at a scramble tournament a man short..no problem..a club member was assigned to us to make our 4 some..our sub was a lady about 70 ish..my team mates were beside themselves..until Mildred smoked her T shot down the fairway and all we had to do was pitch and putt..we shot a 65 as a team..got 2nd place..LOL!!

Such good advice on every count. As a mid-high handicapper with only about a year under my belt, as soon as I began deploying strategies like you outline in this video, not trying to be a hero, kill the ball, or make a full winding swing every shot, I've dropped 8-10 strokes off my score. It's smart and it just works, thank you!

I finally just started swinging the club!!! Meaning hinging back and having my arms swing, none of this let my arms go for a ride...which many instructors said to do and really diminished my game for a while. Well I didn't know it was a method, aka L to L, I just stood there and swung it like that an I gained almost 20yds on my 8 iron, but also all my clubs. I could maybe achieve this before but it was like 1 or 2 out of 10 but now it's like 8 or 9 out of 10 it's going this far. That to me is now simple because I know my distances, specifically mid to long and up clubs, and play with more confidence.

It's an easier game than most of us make it out to be, but, in all fairness, I think the industry makes us feel as if it's more complicated than it really is.

Good stuff, GTD. A couple of questions. I KNOW you probablty commented on this stuff but I can't find it in your videos. Have you tried these: 1) Reverse the Loop (clockwise loop) method (Jess Frank) 2)OTT Miracle Swing (Counter-clockwise loop) (Christo Garcia) 3) Vertical, inline swing (Todd Kolb and Swing Surgeon?) 4) I call it PTH= Point The Handle= focus on where the handle points during the swing I can make a lot of these things work but they don't stick. Like Johnny Miller said, they are WOOD keys = Works Only One Day. lol I'm going back and forth from clockwise loop to Jimmy V. If I break 80 I stay with it - when I start to shoot higher I switch! This OTT Miracle stuff seems logical because that seems to be what the right side wants to do and maybe it does provide more leverage but I just can't drag the club inside like that and not come WAY over the address plane. Thanks, buddy. Also: I heard Marcus was very sick and took time off for surgery, I think. Hope he has a full recovery. A very cool guy. Get well, Marcus. And: That pinched nerve you have - have you tried medical cannabis? Could help from what I read...

This was (another!) great video, GTD! Your swing is looking good! Now that you have practiced all of the KZbin guru swing methods, what percentage do you think each one is of your current swing? I see a lot of Edblad, but not sure about the others.

This video and a comment below brought an oldie but goodie story to mind. I had a friend who was a very gifted golfer in high school. He was LONG and could hit a 1970s 9-iron about 180-190 yds. on a good day. He got the attention of our local muni club pro Phil Giroux who was one of the most notable tour pros in Canada at the time. Anyway he was challenged by someone that he met somewhere to play this mid-fifties hustler type guy who's home base was out in the boonies about an hour away. This guy was short and slight with that sort of gamer/"I own you" kind of attitude. My friend felt that he should obliterate this guy because he was short even for a mid-fifty year old and had a very "at first glance' unimpressive game. My friend could shoot 62 or he could shoot 78 on any given day but was a slight plus handicap. They had several smaller money matches that I didn't see in which my friend took the money about 2/3 of the time but felt that he should never lose to this "little old" wise guy. A grudge developed between the two since the hustler felt he could take him and he had quite a local following in the area of his home club because he was a legendary closer in money matches. It finally resulted in a big money stroke play match between the two for as I remember, about $500 dollars. My friend asked me to caddy for him and we drove out to the hustler's home course. I'll never forget how this guy on a medium length course, bunted the ball around the course while my friend hit rockets and hit 9s and wedges all day long. This guy was bouncing mid-irons into 375 yd. 4s and then sinking 30-40 footers to put daggers in my friend's heart. He had a very short metronomic swing and was 225 out in the middle of every fairway (with 30 of roll) and managed the course like a precision engineer with a chipping and putting touch that would put a surgeon to shame. A couple hundred people followed us around the course drinking and betting and having a good time. The match came up dead even after 18 and they had 2 or 3 SD playoff holes after which my friend finally took him down as the last light was fading. Even though on paper, my friend was a shoe-in to win, I'll never forget how this guy took him to the wire and my friend celebrated like he had won a tour event. Cheers.

Yeah, it reminds you that distance is a huge advantage, but there's room for all kinds of players in the game, and lots of ways to skin a cat.

@@GolfTestDummy Yeah, and my friend could play. I once played alongside him when he was about 18-19 while he took on this 30 year old Quebec mini tour pro, for $100, that could fly the ball over 300 yds. He got a stroke a side from the pro from the tips on a tough track and shot 69 to the pro's 70 and won by 3. Cheers.

Awesome video as always. Question: Do you mostly use the Mini Driver as compared to your regular Driver? I might make the shift… my Driver I have a love hate relationship at the moment 🙁
@GolfTestDummy6 ай бұрын
I solely use the mini. I got rid of my driver a few months back. I gained distance with the mini, and it's just mathematically weird to me.

I saw a couple of your right sided swing videos, seemed like you were hitting quite well. What were your final thoughts about that swing? There is a guy nearby me who teaches this swing so Im curious if you think its worth pursuing

I honestly loved it, but when I do a lot of those reviews, it's typically just enough time to scratch the surface. If I'd stuck with it several months I could've really started to see it take hold.

Nice explanation of the golf swing. Learn to develop a natural swing and try NOT to emulate any male Tour player. If you emulate anyone, we, amateurs, should try to emulate women on Tour. The LPGA and LET, play excellent golf with swing speeds and distances closer to male amateurs and they shoot in the 60s and play quite well. We should strive to do the same. Cheers.
