Those cells are incredibly powerful!! I started my diesel truck with 6 cells (2p3s) a while back. Not only did it start right up, to me it sounded better than the two giant lead acid batteries. I love seeing they come with holders and in packs now vs just loose cells.

Took 2 weeks for my burns to heal good enough to take off bandages. I was not being safe like I should of so be careful .

Having powered my airport golf carts with alternative batteries, I can say that the OEM 8V flooded lead acid batteries fall very short of their 165AH rating, especially with heavy use. By the 2 year mark, we get about half the range. We do many 4 mile runs, from one end of the airport to the other and back, on modified carts that can go 30mph. With that in mind, Lithium batteries with half the AH rating of lead acid batteries tend to compare quite well. We tried 2ea 24v 40AH LifePO4 batteries and they provided about half range. Far, far better than one might at first think. 165AH vs 40. yes, I know the 165 is a 20 hour rate, but even so... I guess my point is that one cannot directly compare AH ratings for a real world range comparison.

I've been toying around with inexpensive upgrade to prius traction battery. If I could configure cells in series, 2 pair to make 14.8v module, 14 modules in series for 207.2Volts @16ah... vs OEM 201.6Volts @6.5ah... I think I would have one heck of a battery upgrade! For $250 plus shipping or pickup... hmmm...

Waits for BH to sell out due to this. :-) I have 8 of the 24V ones that they were selling that I have modified. The originals were 24V at 24Ah ( 7S3P ) They now are at 24V 32Ah ( 7s4P ). While 32Ah doesn't sound like much, you have to remember that these cells can put out 200Amps per cell and 400 for short periods. So each of my packs can do 800 continuous at the cells. With 8 of the packs that means the potential, if not limited somehow, of 6400 Amps at 24V. These will be used to feed a 6K inverter so they never will need to put out their max output and will be limited to 300 Amps max on the inverter input. Your golf cart should be 36V and about 275 Amps max on the motor so well within the short time ratings of the 1200Amp unit (10S6P).

If you aren't using their extreme output *rate* you're just wasting space. You can get the same *capacity* in the space of a coffee mug. These would be great for high impulse loads like welding, drag racing, start batteries, etc. Running an inverter at a low, steady current is not a good match for these things. (maybe an inverter to power a laser printer. or maybe a _really big_ battery pack for an impact driver.)

I listened to a couple of you tube channels that said to drain my SOK 12 volt 100 amp lithium batteries till they shut down, so that I can make certain they are matching when I connect them together as a 24 volt system to my MPP 24/24 inverter (all n one) . They shut off at 8.? Volts. It wasn’t reading anything between positive and negative, no voltage between positive and negative. Now when I hooked it back up to my MPP inverter I get an error code #56 that says battery connection is open. How do I close it so they will charge again. Everything was working perfect before I drained the batteries.

I've tested their BMS's and have been able to pull 100% of the battery rated capacity through the BMS, so I know they allow all the energy. Just curious 🤔 Could you reconfigure the cells for a 12v setup?How many kw or watts?
@DavidPozEnergy
@DavidPozEnergy 3 жыл бұрын
These cells have a nominal voltage of 3.7V. If you arranged them 3s (series) then the nominal voltage would be 11.1V (low for a 12V battery). If you arranged them 4s then it'd be 14.8V (high for 12V). I don't suggest building a 12V battery with these cells. Instead build a 12V battery with LiFePO4 cells, which have a nominal voltage of 3.2V. Then 4s would be 12.8V (perfect)

Hi! I have an old Vectrix VX-1 scooter , but the original batteries are dead. Can you suggest some batteries that would be good to replace the old ones? The original had around 102 batteries 1.2v and 26 amps each, all connected in series for a total of 122v with 28Amp.
@DavidPozEnergy

Hi Andrei, I'm guessing you are interested in these SPIM08 cells as a replacement? You will want to find out what the maximum voltage was of your original battery so that you don't go over that with the new battery you build. Your original charger might be 150V or 160V, somewhere in that range. This means you are going to be around 35 SPIM08 cells in series (give or take). Is this what you are asking about?

When working with an EV (car/scooter/bike/boat) I prefer using a battery that parallels the cells first, then series them. The module I show in this video is paralleling 6 cells and then making one series connection to the next cell group. This is the better approach to EV's. The other options you mentioned, such as the Jeep would be opposite. The jeep cells would be quite a pain to break apart, so you probably would be series connecting 3 modules into one battery. Then repeating that process 6 more times. This would be 7 individual 140V batteries. The trouble is that you need 7 BMS's. It's OK, but not as ideal as paralleling them first (such as the SPIM08) and then one BMS. But, if you go with one BMS it has to be a relay based BMS. I should note, that based on your context I think you are trying to build a battery with more than 30Ah (Amp*hours). Not Amps. Please correct me if I'm wrong. If the goal is to get above 30Ah, then you could buy the SPIM08 36V modules I show in the video. 4 modules in series is 6P40S, or 148V@48Ah. It's over your 30Ah goal. Just for fun, here is another option: batteryhookup.com/products/8x-new-sab-3-2v-55ah-176wh-60280-cells Each cell is 3.2V and 55Ah. So you don't have to parallel any. You can buy 44 cells, arranged in series, for a nominal 140.8V, 55Ah, battery. Battery Hookup sells the plastic cell holders and bus bars too. With anything, please use discount code DAVIDPOZ to help the channel and get a discount.

@DavidPozEnergy
@DavidPozEnergy 3 жыл бұрын
If you have two batteries in parallel, and one BMS on each battery, then theoretically, you would have 400 amps. However, there are always tiny differences in resistance which will favor one BMS over the other. The actual usable amps might be more like 380A from two 200A BMS's in parallel.

They'd work well for start purposes (high current, short duration), but for continuous loads the energy density is horrible. (more power [capacity, Ah] can be had in less space and weight. the bolt module has 3x the power, and it's far from the most efficient out there -- it was designed for a 10yr duty cycle of a car; having taken them down to the raw pouches, there's surprisingly little actual battery in those.)

Powerwalls should really be called "storagewalls". These batteries can deliver high power but have a low energy capacity, and it is energy capacity you need in a powerwall. Yes, you could make them work, but you would need a lot of them and would never use their potential to deliver high current.
@jfbeam
@jfbeam 3 жыл бұрын
A powerwall can be built out of anything. The question is budget, space available, and the amount of mass your wall/floor can handle. That said, these things have horrible power density, so it will take a lot of them to assemble even a 10kWh unit. (I don't know your needs, but the average household needs ~20kWh per day.)
