My Grammy left me a ring before she’d passed and I wanted to set it aside for my oldest when she was born. Found an almost exact replica on eBay but wanted to wait for the price to come down. Told my hubby what price I was waiting for and he agreed. It was $5 away and I got an email saying it had been sold. To say I was devastated would be an understatement. That Christmas, we were at my BFFs and he waited so I’d open the last gift. It was the replica ring, he’d bought it out from under me and had it sized to fit me. Best and most romantic gift I’ve ever received 💙

My six year old has autism and she’s a sweet good little girl, but she gets overwhelmed at school sometimes and has meltdowns. She was convinced Santa wouldn’t come this year because she struggles at school. I work in a hospital. I told her the paediatricians have a phone line to Santa so he knows where to deliver presents to the sick kids. One of them let me film them calling Santa on the “special phone”. Santa said that it’s ok to mess up, as long as you try. She was so happy “mom, I always try to be good every day!” I’m crying just thinking about it. Edit: when I say “sick kids” I mean the patients in hospital, not my own child! I told her the doctors had a hotline to Santa because they were looking after the kids in the hospital, and they were willing to help us out as a favour!

When I was about 9 I talked all year about how I wanted a dog for Christmas, I looked at shelters online, researched training and different breeds and everything and then when Christmas came around every adult I knew besides my parents and grandparents kept telling me I was being ridiculous to ask for a dog and to be realistic, I was absolutely heart broken but I tried to forget about it and asked for some toys instead. Lo and behold, Christmas came and sitting on the couch was a big fluffy golden retriever puppy waiting for me. I only got to be with him for a year before I had to move and leave him with my grandparents but he grew up to be the best dog ever for them and took care of them until he passed just after Christmas two years ago at the ripe old age of 12. To this day that was the most special experience of my life, and although I was sad at the time about giving leaving him I can’t imagine a better life for both him and my grandparents then they had together.

4:46 in my opinion the kid didn't do anything, he tried being happy for what I think is his sibling, but the mom and the rest of his family was like seemed to be teasing him and stuff, and them mom putting the phone in his face was wrong, especially when he was crying and trying to hide it. I relate to the Meta Quest kid so much. My mom would always blow all her money on my older brother and then try to find stuff for me with what was left. Like I was grateful to get anything, but it was difficult to see him open his gifts. My mom tried to claim it was because he had less Christmas times as a kid left, but I didn't seem to get anything I wanted as I got older. Funny how that works.
@TitianTopsyTurvy

My dad did that for my older brother. But what he was really doing was buying himself all the gifts he'd wanted as a child. My brother didn't even get to play with his own gifts because dad insisted he set them up and got them working right.

Over and over again and the dad like "Oh yeah, it's 'allergies'" in a snide voice. Eff those parents! Leave the kid alone! He is allowed to have feelings for 1 and 2 baiting him like that ain't cool. So fr. I can sense the favoritism. And I know damn well they don't see anything wrong with their behavior. That can very much affect him and his relationship with his parents deep enough to where he will always have a strained relationship with them. Ofc he can't always get what he wants, but they need to be mature adults and not taunt him.

My daughter is 17 and I still love watching her open her gifts. I do miss the days when she was little and was excited to open anything and everything. Now I love that she just has to stop and watch others open their gifts and loves to see how happy she has made someone. I used to have foster kids and one of the boys barely even looked at what he just opened before he was looking for what was next. Tossing each thing quickly aside and grabbing for the next. I am happy to say by his birthday a couple month later he was completely different. He really wanted a hockey net. He opened some small gifts and I said “ Ok that’s all the presents”. He said ok and stated playing with a toy car. I called him to the kitchen for cake where his hockey net was all set up. He hugged me so hard. I knew that sweet boy was in there.

How i know they were used? It smelled like her friend who smoked a lot. Lots of the times it got me into tears cuz it wasn't anything i could really use. Not my style or like i said broken. During my Hunchback of Notre-Dame era, my parents really went for it and offered me everything Hunchback-themed they could find. Bedsheets, glasses, every Barbie dolls, every freaking thing. Gosh I still cherish these toys to this day and my daughter uses the kitchenware (she's too young to play with the dolls, I wouldn't take the risk of her damaging them). So that's a fond Christmas memory.

A pet can be a good gift, but certain conditions must be met. You can suprise kids with a dog or a kitten, but only when adults in the house want and are able to care for one. Children may help with care, but there's a ot of things like training and vet bills that will be fully adult responsibility. And when someone is gifting a pet for an adult, it really should be discussed earlier, to make sure the person wants the animal. Would they have enough time to take care of it? Are they in stable enough situation financially. Generally suprising an adult with an animal is not really great idea.

The year I was 7, I got a "big girl" pushbike for Christmas... I was in the lounge room, opening Santa gifts, when my dad said he left his coffee cup in my bedroom when he came in to wake me up; could I please go and get it for him. So I did.. while mum and I had been in the lounge room, dad had snuck the bike into my room. I spent most of that Christmas riding my bike around the backyard! My grandma promised to leave jewelry to all her granddaughters, but it wasn't in her will... I think she realised that I wouldn't get a look-in, and that the others would take everything. She was visiting (for what we didn't know would be the last time), and one day she took her necklace off, and put it on me. It was the last gift my grandfather bought her, as a gift for the 50th wedding anniversary he wouldn't live to see. It means the world to me.

Wow! That’s really so special. To not only have the last gift your grandfather gave your grandmother, but to have your grandmother physically put it on you. That leaves zero room for anyone to try to get it after she passes. My grandma who was my best friend passed away years ago but a few years before she died she started putting tape with our names on the things she wanted us to have. It was kinda fun and silly like a scavenger hunt and guessing game amongst the terrrible grief we were all going through while cleaning out her apartment. I’m really happy for you that you were able to experience that joy WITH your grandma. 💜💚

@ lots of people suggested we pick a day elsewhere in the year to celebrate, but I’ve always loved that he was born on Christmas. This year, I got to see my queen, Meghan trainor in concert, after 7 years from her last tour. My birthday was in November, but her pre sale was this last march. My mom knows how much I love Meghan bc I am chronically ill and her spirit kept me going. My mom got amazing tickets that were so close to the stage, and I was so grateful. I told her I am totally fine with not getting anything for my birthday or Christmas. My birthday was November 30th, and I want to go back to that night I saw Meghan and relive it over and over again, that was probably the greatest gift I’ve could’ve gotten. Remember to be thankful of what you have, that you have full bellies and a roof over your head, because some people aren’t as lucky to have that.

We didn't have a lot growing up. But, my mum & dad were smart about it. They would get lots of little gifts and then a main gift so we had lots to open on Christmas morning (well it seemed a lot to us) E.g. get a doll as the main gift and then all the other gifts were things for the doll, different outfits singly wrapped, a baby bottle single wrapped, a blanket and pillow set for the doll, a hair brush for the dolls hair and so on and maybe a couple of little books, etc. We thought it was awesome and said genuine "thank yous" after each gift was unwrapped. We were also taught that the day was about being with loved ones (whoever that is to you) and sharing a good meal together and laughing. my parents made Christmas so magical that we had no idea we weren't as well off as most people around us and I'm grateful I was taught that Christmas is about love, friendship, and sheer joy. Not the gifts.

My husband and I had been trying to get pregnant for over 10 years and after realizing the doctors were right we decided to adopt. If you’ve ever been through the process of adoption it is a long haul and through a few disappointments (One that was pretty devastating) there was a Birth Mom that had three families she was looking at and every time she started reading what they now call our dear birth mother letter but it’s more of a packet of pictures and why you’re adopting and all about the parents, every time she would read our packet he would kick the packet off of her and she said she just knew. We got a phone call first thing Christmas Eve morning that our birth mother had chosen us. Anybody that has gone through infertility would understand the depth of feelings we felt at that moment, it was cause for celebration and gratefulness. We were being given a gift that was so unbelievable that it seemed perfect that it was Christmas, the most special Christmas gift we have ever received. He is now almost 28 years old and he is still the most precious child my husband or I could ever of dreamed of having.

I got Coal and rocks from Santa as a child, and Santa gave my son a HUGE rock one year.... He was old enough to figure it out, but it did improve his attitude for a short time. I was always thankful for my gifts, but would get disappointed when I didn't get something I really wanted, which back in my day was a Cabbage Patch Doll. It was hard to hide the disappointment, but I didn't want to hurt my parents feelings either, so would just go to my room to cry and pretend I was napping.

5:03 no because my mother used to literally do this to me every year with my siblings and now I literally don’t have a relationship with my mother. This one is not funny and it’s not him being spoiled. It’s watching the thing he wants every year be given to someone else instead of him

Christmas is a time of giving so a couple of years ago my family decided to stop buying presents for each other and instead we donate the money that would've been spent on them to different charities instead. There is always someone in the world worse off than ourselves and its our way of helping others in need.

I could never be one of those people that say dont wish for a girl, boys are easier. Maybe they are, but i wouldnt trade my girl for the world. I always wanted to have a little girl, but from the age of 17 on, i was told i couldnt have kids. When i was 31, i got pregnant with our little girl. She truly was a miracle baby. I literally only had 1 fallopian tube and a half of an ovary when i got pregnant with her. I wont lie, pregnancy was hell for me and thank god i never had to do it again. My little girl was premature. She was 8 weeks early and growth restricted because my placenta quit working. She was 2 pounds and 14 inches long. My precious little girl is now getting ready turn 15 on January 6th. She is the most thoughtful, polite, courageous, beautiful young lady ive ever met. And ive had the great privilege of raising her to be the best human she can be. Keep wishing for your little girl Celina, they are so worth it!!!

I feel so bad for the Meta Quest kid he was clearly trying so hard to regulate. I experienced something similar when my sister got a super expensive rock tumbler that she had said she didn't even want and I had been saying it had something I wanted for Christmas for years. So when she unwrapped hers, I was of course, excited for her, but also secretly hoping I got one too. And when I unwrapped one of my presents it was the box that the rock tumbler came in and I got super excited and shouted "oh my god, a rock tumbler!" It wasn't. They just used the box, and I definitely felt like it was to tease me. Sister ended up breaking the rock tumbler a week later and saying she didn't even like it anyways.

My kid never acted as entitled as some of these children are. We never had a bunch of money so sometimes he got thrifted stuff. He always accepted it with a smile and thank you! Ppl need to instill in the child that it's not about the price of the gift and it's truly the thought that goes behind it.

I can understand the upset in the couple of clips where siblings were upset. There's a five year gap between my kids, so getting them the same thing doesn't always make sense. But I do try to make the gifts comparable. Thankfully they are both excited about all gifts, we have never had an ungrateful/upset reaction.

The best gift I've ever been given is my cat, Lady Lucipurr Fluffbummington the First, Luci for short. I got her together with all she needed (tall catpole, litterbox, food and a year of insurance), because I have a very low income and the initial purchases was a lot. She's the snuggliest cat ever and feels my moods so well, she's my little familiar and furbaby.

We were so poor, sometimes we didn't even know IF we were getting Christmas gifts. I remember mom going to Big B (a pharmacy) and coming home with several bags. Someone I know got their kid a vacuum cleaner because the kid got mad and threw the old one, broke it, and some knick knacks. IKid learned the lesson, but wasn't completely traumatized.

Last year my son got the newest iPhone, the latest Apple Watch (both from his dad) a PS5 (me) and from my mom some pricey VR thing. He reacted with no enthusiasm at all, just a ‘thank you’ and started to read the manuals. An hour later, the boy nextdoor came in to see what presents my son had gotten. He was so over the moon, jumping up and down yelling ‘OMG! OMG! You got everything bro!’. That made something click for my son. Later that day he apologized teary eyed to my mom, his grandmother. But concluded it was my fault after all because I had spoiled him to the point that he (and I quote) ‘could find no joy over presents that most kids want and don’t get’. Christmas has been cancelled until 2030.

I was raised to always say thank you when getting a gift, even if it wasn't something I asked for or might not use. A gift means someone was thinking of you, and while they may sometimes be off in their guess for what you'd like, they still thought about you, so a thank you is the least you can give back. Now, that's not to say I never got gifts I absolutely hated or that I knew the giver had barely thought of me lol, but I still said thank you, and anything I didn't want I either gave to someone I knew that would want it or gave it to charity in the hopes someone would like it eventually. These spoiled little brats just drive me up a wall...but I blame the parents mostly for that, for not instilling good lessons as the kid grew.
