As a pagan witch I'm so glad that you mentioned pagan traditions but its actually majority of Christmas traditions come from Paganism/Yule! Ex: the trees, mistletoe, and lights used to ward off evil spirits. Simmer pots to bring joy and life into the home. the star on top of the tree for protection(its basically a pentacle). Bonfires to bring light to the darkest time of year. Gift giving. And so much more!

There’s TONS of things online and in old books saying all sorts of stuff. They even have an entire thing about Santa and shamans and the hallucinogenic mushroom used a LONG time ago 😅 I’ve seen and read SO MANY theories on Christmas that I stopped counting and stopped trying to learn them all… because people are just saying what they want to be true at this point 😅. My opinion? ITS CHRISTMAS ♥️ believe what you want, but never say that anything is %100 true.

That explains the silver sixpence added to Christmas pudding here in the UK. We also have steak and kidney pudding, and black pudding is basically just pig's blood, oatmeal, pork fat, onions and plenty of spices and seasonings. Not all our puddings are sweet. :)

You briefly mentioned Yule, it would nice to do a deep dive into those legends :) Grýla and Leppalúði, parents of the Yule Lads, and owners of the Yule Cat. It is the last legend that leads me to purchase pajamas every year and are given to all members of my famliy on Christmas Eve Morning, to be worn that day/night to keep the Yule Cat away. To my knowledge I don't have Icelandic heritage, I just really enjoy The Legend of the Christmas Cat.

Growing up, one of my favorite traditions on my dad's side, was my Grandma would get each kid a ornament every year, she would either make it, or get them on one of her many trips to countries. I loved and miss that!

Thanks for sharing. I was reading about Boxing Day earlier. It was actually a paupers holiday in which the rich masters would give thier servants and traders a full day off to see thier family and give them an empty box where they go to church and get the left overs from the rich people's game ''Christmas. Food, clothes, items. This tradition happened in the medieval times and lasted up until the 90s where the tradition became all about sales and sports. Until then, it was nothing more than a divided world between rich and poor.

As a pagan here hanging ornaments is so you can make a wish for the next year with every one. And mother’s night also known as the winter solstice is when the great mother gave birth to the sun her son. So yeah a lot less spooky than what you may believe. 😁

as a german, dude those kampus nights scared the shit outta me. My parents even brought my neigbors into this when i was a child, so i wouldnt get suspicious it was them. In my school we have this tradition that each class has to write a small poem and the Nikolaus (a teacher) with his angels (students) and multiple Kampus(students), theyd knock over stuff, hit with branches the desk and walls, stilla jumpsscare every year
