The graphics map showing the entire United States that could be available to all of us 24/7 is an excellent idea. Your weather is more reliable than any news or the Weather Channel. I trust the accuracy of your maps above anyone else. Being able to access these maps anytime, without you having to go live makes our ability to keep ourselves safe much higher.

Just googled a live ocean temp map and hurricane alley is all averaging mid 80s which is definitely capable of producing hurricanes. (Obviously other factors matter) I was happy to see the NOAA map i found included the great lakes, that will be good to know come winter for knowing how bad the lake effect snow will be.

@@razrv3lc looks like our current period of calm is thanks to dust from the Sahara blocking hurricane formation. But as you said, this just means the ocean is getting warmer and warmer to fuel more big storms once the dust passes.

I know we in southeastern WI haven't had the worst of any severe weather, but I am ***really*** looking forward to possibly almost a whole week of cooler and drier air. We do not need more rain, wind, or heat. If we have to ride out one more line of storms to get there, so be it. EDIT: It's more or less over for us around 10 pm CDT. The major outcome here is flooding which usually means an explosion of insects days later, which means the bats, swallows, frogs, etc are eating good. Extremely epic lightning and thunder too.

I live on the north side of downtown Columbus. I went to Easton where it sprinkled and then Hilliard where it was completely dry. When I came home my yard was soaked and a massive tree had fallen from the neighbors thru my fence and covered half my back yard. My husband was in disbelief that I was unaware there was a storm. That little burst was concentrated!

That Derecho prediction was spot on - at one point, it felt like the entire line was spun-up with tornados - 6 in a row from southern Wisconsin well into northern Illinois - then 3 or 4 bearing down on Chicago as the line moved across Illinois. The new graphics or pretty solid. Love seeing "the bigger picture"....

Oh, yeah, some people definitely don't. im fully aware, though. I lived through the August 10th 2020 Iowa Derecho. (left me without power for a week, and that week took its toll on my emergency supplies)

A derecho can cause severe damage, similar to a tornado. Wind is a very powerful force, and when intense rain combines with that wind, bad things may happen. Derechos are sneaky, too!

I’m in eastern Iowa, we were hit with the deracio back in 2020 on August 10th and where I live we took the direct hit with the worst winds recorded, we’re coming up on 4 years in less than a month, hearing about the weather today and the possibility I’m terrified that storm gave me more storm anxiety than what I already had 😭
