Found out early on you can't work on farm equipment for pennies cause it takes so many of them it quickly turns into dollars and lots of them. I have a Great Plains six foot no till drill. Last year I replaced all the coulter blades and all the opening discs. Nineteen openers and nine coulters. Lot of money spent that day but it is good for a good long time now. Sometimes you just have to spend the money and fix stuff. Your drill will plant much better with new discs. You get more uniform seed depth and they will cut much better if you plant into any kind of stubble.The "regulators" you spoke of are metering boxes. They meter the seed out as they turn. Pull your side panels off the drill and check your drive chains. Very bad things happen if they break and wad up inside.
@Pennies_on_the_dollar Жыл бұрын
Boy they sure do, been seeing that a lot lately!! But yes sir, very very good investment!! Long overdue, and should last a long while I hope!! Boy I bet that did hurt the pocketbook that day, but I'm sure it is almost like new now!! The stubble is exactly what I was concerned with!! It has broken down a lot in the last week or two, so that last fertilizer work in pass with the packer should be perfect!! Metering boxes,an that's the word....couldn't think of it to save my life!! I did exaclty that when I replaced those bearings, ole drill isn't much eye candy, but sure is nice behind the faded paint! Thank you sir for all the great input, advice and help!! I really appreciate that, and Also for always being here!! 👍👍😁😁🇺🇸🇺🇸🌱 Wednesday is the day 🌾🌾🌾🌾🌾🤞🤞🤞🤞

Wow those old blades were shot! It's hard to tell sometimes how worn out something is until you see it beside a new one. On that link that you moved over, it was probably offset so far because the lever it hooks to moves left to right also to engage the gears when you raise and lower the openers. So it was probably a lot straighter when everything is down, rather than up. My drill is like that anyway. Hope your disc hangs in there to get you finished this year. Hope you have a good one Nelson!
@Pennies_on_the_dollar Жыл бұрын
They sure were Evan!! I agree, I had no idea just how bad u til I got the new ones 😳😳 Boy you are sharp as a tack!! After I did all that, and was going back double checking....I realized that exact thing you are sepaking of!! That spring if you well that engaged the gears🤦🤦 Sometimes I wonder about myself, but I really appreciate it!! There is usually a reason for things🤣🤣 I will.say though, it had been moved over past the happy medium on the one side, I feel.like to try and force the spring to hold the wore out gears together. I replaced all those bearings and gears, should I have caught it then 🤦🤦 I used a grease needle and packed those bearings full, I hope it will Evan, today is the day 🌾🌾🌾🌾🙏🙏🙏🤞🤞🤞 Thank you very much for all your support and always being here!! You're planting equipment is one place you dont need to skimp. You did the right thing getting the whole complete unit. Its hard to get those bearings ever riveted back in there tight. You're an official farmer now that you're pulling things out of the scrap to make parts for your drill. 🤣 Shoup Parts are great to work with it. Normally if I get it ordered by 2 or 3 in the afternoon it will be here the next day.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGTMZHSHetplb6Msi=wFHfk03VyJaDBvrE Yes, it worked flawlessly. I still had some grass clumps (40+yrs) but planted amazing!! The tire size I will get for you, at the beach right now. But I will say they are 14 inch, and not the correct ones. It took me a min to compensate on the chart for the different tire size. But I got it dialed in pretty well. My email is in the about section of my channel, shoot me an email and we can text, call or email more if you need more help. Thank you again for the support and being here. There are several videos on the drill and repairs, when I fixed the clutches for the slipping aspect.
