Once Mobili Mare gave us the green light to do what we wanted we were excited to get going. Also, a huge thanks to all the great suggestions and comments in the last video for the insulation and electric. We've read them all and you've helped us out so much! Keep up the great feedback!! Tell us, what have been your biggest issue with the electrical installation in your boat?

you may want to put in a pull string in the condet, it makes pulling wires later a lot easier.

Yes to the draw string. Make it over twice the length of the conduit and then tie it off. It will then work with the risk of it being removed.

Also, always pull another string when using the existing on to pull a wire.

Starting an electrical cable list you have to give each cable sequence number and prefix in the cable list. like G-101 G=the type circuit 101=sequence number. So your line entry in the cablelist might be per column: prefix with cable number, to/from connected items, drawing (electrical scheme) number, electrical load (in Kw), connnected to emergency power y/n. Suggest to put this in a spread sheet which makes it possible to you to make additions, selections, etc. All puled calbes in your video shall have a label at both sides showing prefix and cable number. Hope you consider also the amount of cables associated with navigation. e.g. as autopilot cables, navigation system cables, radar cables, start/stop cables motor, etc.

Tip: Pull a fishing line through each conduit. It will make wiring so much easier. When you pull a wire through, make sure you attach a new fishing line to it. That way you will always be able to draw new wires in the future. Makes life so much easier.

Lot of suggestions to leave extra pull wire or ‘fish line’ in conduits. I hope you plan for wiring and plumbing locations is based on a rough interior plan ?? So nice for you to be working with new materials , fixing old stuff is so hard and frustrating Cheers Warren

Great job guys 👍👍 As per. A previous comment, run a pull wire through the conduit, it will make life much easier if you ever have to run more cable.(that’s coming from an electrician, I know it might seem unnecessary but I know from experience) Love your channel 👍👍🇮🇪🇮🇪❤️❤️

You use pipes for the cables. Unfortunately, these can collect condensation water. Therefore, it may be advisable to make holes for drainage at low points. Now you may have used pipes with slots that cannot collect water. Labeling the cables is very good. I don't know if you mentioned that these should be on both ends. You explain very clearly and educationally how the planning and implementation of a low-voltage system should be carried out. I wish you all the best.

We thought about the condensation but we’re not sure. Thanks for the tip, we can certainly put drainage holes incase. And we did label both ends of the cables, did forget to mention that! Thanks for your help!! Much appreciated! 🙏🙌⛵️

In addition to my earlier comment I would like to suggest also to prepare a cable list per system. it should incude to/from, power consumption, type of cable, etc. It will help you to create overview and to size your power generation and battery loads.

Oh that is a work of art..!! I love the organised layout. You didn't mention the anchor windlass, and usually they need some heavy duty wires from the starter battery if it doesn't have a dedicated battery up forward with charging cables running from the charging circuit. What do you have in mind? Kind regards Grant.

Adding a draw wire thru the conduit is a must as it will be difficult to push extra cables in later. Also unroll the conduit (or cable roll) rather the pulling sideways as you will get less twisting
@jakobtheinventor
@jakobtheinventor Жыл бұрын
Laurie, it is better with several small conduites (tubes) than one big. This is because it can be very difficoult to pull extra cables into one allready half full conduite/tube This i know from experience. The other csbles tend to catch the incomming new cable...and dispite silicone lubricant on the wire, it can be crazy difficult to draw an extra cable.

This is a solid suggestion and makes sense! We did buy a different guide early on that really works amazing as well. It has a strong metal spring at the end with a rounded cap that is powering through the conduits. Our previous one was plastic and got hung up everywhere.

Looks good but lots of work. When working with conduit like that, to put wire inside tie a little piece of rag to a string put at the one end and with a vacuum suck the rag and string through so you can use the string to pull the wire or whatever into the conduit. Just use string strong enough and long enough to go through. Good luck and I am looking forward to see this vessel sail.

I love the ring markers. This is the first time that I have seen them used. You have a good system for organizing your wiring. If I had to do the same job I would use the system we used on jet fighters. I would start at the tip of the bow and measure in metrics the length of the boat and I would put that number on the wire at the breaker box. This would be the location of the destination of the wire. Skip to the next number and place the number on a clock of the device being fed. Pretend that you are in the center of the hull. The first set of numbers tells you the station of the location and the second set of numbers tells you the location according to a clock. In the breaker area you know the destination of the wire.

Those electrical conduits do not look large enough. You are going to need some large cables to supply high power DC devices. Work out the size of cables needed for your equipment and make sure you have adequate conduit plus some spare.

Looking to this episode I would like to suggest next to your lables in the boat that you document with electrical schemes all your systems e.g.12v, 24v, etc. Also the power generating part have to be documented. This will help you with a check on the system safety switches, etc.

Don't forget the cables for the pomp and sensors in your V-birth Also the wall plugs in the country could have different voltage, so couple of wallplugs for 110 and 220/240 V for the different appliances you are going to buy on your trip around the world

Very good point! Different voltages is definitely something to tackle! In Brazil alone, this can change from state to state. In Rio we bought everything 127v and here in Santa Catarina everything is 220v. So we had to buy transformers or new things! We'll sit down and think long and hard how to work this out. Cheers!!

Great idea doing wiring now as makes it so much easier for Cabinet Makers when they do their thing. One thing you could have done was to put in T connector in where something branches of makes it a bit more today and you can slip conduit over it. Above all run it where you might need in future if it never gets used so be it but it's there. The big issue is distance and voltage drop lighting not an issue but everything should be calculated out and add 25%. Anyhoo God job keep at it. ;0)

If you have connectors on the end of cables you want to protect in a conduit, use a split conduit. Basically its a conduit that is split along its length, then a second peice fits over once the cables are fitted.

Definitely a huge task to get all that laid out, good job getting after it - have you had a chance to do a load analysis for your system and any idea what future upgrades to leave overhead or extra conduits for? Now is the perfect time to future proof things a little! Best of luck - I'm looking forward to seeing the inside done, almost as much as the outside fairing and paint.

Think about the very large wires that will be used for the windless as well as the windless control wires. Oh, yes, the bow light the port and starboard, and the stern lights will be brought together at the navigation station. You will have a ton of wire aft of the companion stairway going into the nav. don't forget the bilge. There will be heavy wires to the battery going to and from the controllers. Have you thought of using "messenger" lines? So sorry for destroying your day. Wires, wires everywhere. Your hull is looking wonderful, keep up the fine work. I'm enjoying your adventure. My wife and I spent 5 years as liveaboards always on the hook and always doing the work ourselves. We even became minor experts in refrigeration.

Yes your right! Lots of wires! We do have a conduit passed for the windless but we haven't bought the wire yet (cause it's expensive 😅) and also we have conduits to the bilge but haven't been wired yet either. We did buy some thick fishing line to leave in the conduits for future wires but then we haven't installed them. So much to do so little time! 😂😂 We'll be getting to the fridge soon, if we have any questions, we'll let you know! Thanks! Cheers!!

I have never seen such ga[ps between the inner frame and the steel. There is supposed to be no gaps everything is supposed to be welded on tight for structural support. All that 3,000 of parging and apint that fell off may have been due to your sides flexing too much and the parging was stiffer than the steel so it fell off. That is what I am worried about. Not sure what your inspector engineer thought of all those gaps. I hope you reinforced the window pars you thinned the roof and sides and when a ton of water lands on your roof the only thing supporting it are the pillars at the windows that you thinned down. Better thicken those up. Otherwise I do love the shape of your hull.
