Thanks a lot for your comparison. I wish you can do a quick follow up on the fan pitch noise. Most thinkpads I have returned because they produce a very low volume high pitched frequency sound from the fan running at idle speeds. That pitch noise is very audible in a quiet office space.

At last, the long-awaited review! I liked how you compared it with the previous generation, which cleared up almost all of my doubts. One question remains: how many USB controllers (not ports) does it have? I need a notebook with the most USB controllers.

The most important question is haptic buttons with trackpoint, do they feel good, which you kind of glossed over a bit.
@TechGuyBeau4 сағат бұрын
Yeah they feel great. Better than the plunging trackpad

Hi, thanks for your review. I had the P1 Gen 7 (i9 185H, 4070) for 1 week, but then sent it back because it was too loud for me. During simple tasks, the fan started briefly and then went off again. The fans were clearly audible in the first stage. On reddit, some people wrote that the lowest speed for the i9 185H variant is around 2400 rpm, while for the i7 it is around 1900 rpm. Can you confirm that?
@emilemouannes223612 күн бұрын
Where did you read about the lowest RPM? Can you link it?
@saschawolf580811 күн бұрын
@@emilemouannes2236Hi, i can't post links, but when you search in google "p1 gen 7 185h vs. 155h reddit" you find the discussion. There are more reports in the thinkpad sub about the different rpm's.

The absence of the rtx 4090 and rtx 5000 ADA options, as well as the absence of a simcard slot for 5G networks, is a throwback to previous generations.

It’s a shame we’re not getting the top GPU this year. Having 16GB of VRAM is a must for both 3D rendering and UE5 development if you do it professinally. Hopefully, next year we’ll see a 5080 option with upward-firing speakers (since I use my laptop on my lap a lot) and USB-C power delivery instead of the proprietary port. ThinkPad like that would become a legend. Ah, and please, no liquid metal stuff. PTM7950 is much easier to handle.
@MattJHАй бұрын
I may have misunderstood the power delivery bit, but just in case -- the P1 has had Power Delivery 3.0 since Gen 4 at least. You can charge it up to 100W over USB-C as long as your power adapter and USB-C cable are rated for 100W or more. I use Apple's 96W adapter along with a 100W USB-C charging cable to charge mine while on the go as opposed to hauling around the faster slim-tip brick.
@antonulybin389Ай бұрын
@@MattJH Yeah, I know that, sorry if I wasn’t clear enough. I was talking about getting rid of the proprietary charging port and fully powering the laptop via USB-C instead. The current power limit for USB-C is 240W. P14 Gen 5 with a dGPU uses a 135W USB-C charger, which is pretty close to the 170W proprietary charger of the P1 Gen 7. With the new generation of RTX cards becoming more energy-efficient, I’m hopeful we’ll see proprietary chargers gone within a generation or two. It would be great to charge all devices using a compact GAN USB-C charger.

Thanks for this video. On my 1p gen7 unit I noticed that the back lighting on #7 key (second row from top, below F8) is much brighter compared to other keys. Did you notice similar issue on your units?

How was fan noise for you for low to medium loads? I returned the 185H due to noisy fans. Is there a difference for the core i7

Thank you. Which laptop in your opinion has a fair price if ThinkPad P1 is overpriced?
@TechGuyBeau7 күн бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean. The p1 is "fair" when on a sale. Gaming laptops offer more bang for the buck but are much larger

Subscribed, very nice review. I would go with the P1 Gen7 model without the dGPU (I have a desktop for that), just the Intel Arc and with the 2K IPS display (more than enough PPI for that display size, plus UI scaling sucks at 4K in addition to being an unnecessary render effort on the frames, everything has an impact on the battery imho). This would fit me best as I main Linux (where Nvidia sucks btw) but I am curious how much my choice helps with the power consumption, thermals & noise. I saw ~116w@55db in load (I cannot see the temp), but what are the numbers in idle & medium use, how often do the fans ramp up? I would've loved to see them, hope I didn't miss them. ps. how are people not afraid of a permanent burn-in on an oled (not easy to replace) screen on a very expensive & overpriced workstation with static images baffles me

Those blueish OLED are inferior to the battle-proven and with superb endurance IPS, why the hell they are pushed forward.
@andyH_EnglandАй бұрын
Creators go wild over OLED yet they are not great for office work. I only use IPS or miniLED as they are better for my eyes. OLED displays are great if you mainly use your laptop for either gaming or watching media.
@SanmayceАй бұрын
@@andyH_England Indeed, IPS are arguably superior since its colors and are less DIODish a.k.a. LEDish, the latter burn not only your eyes with its laser-like intensity but kill themselves also, transitional technology it is. And this annoying greenish/blueish tint, ugh. I used for a month P14s gen4 with OLED, even on lower levels it burns eyes, not for programming tasks.

You don't need to hold the laptop, a work tool next to you the whole time like it's a brand new toy. By god, that camera bump on the P1 Gen 7 is hideous... If I wanted a cheap gimmicky looking laptop I wouldn't be getting a Thinkpad... Lenovo has no idea what they're doing, and you shilling them this hard shows me you're just as out of the loop

@@TechGuyBeau Very badly built, feels like its going to break anytime. The buttons above the trackpad are atrocious and useless. Also, who does use trackpoint these days? On top of that, used to take way too long to boot and performance-wise used to be slow to work on vs-code. 60hz screen in 2024? nope. Cant talk about all thinkpad models, but the one I had left a very bad impression of Lenovo for me. Never will buy one laptop of this brand in my life.

if you are spending more than 2k on a laptop, unless its for gaming always goes for macbook pro i learn this the hard way.
