Allow these fish to go into the pet trade and watch their numbers multiply incredibly. If they only live in one spot in the entire planet then allow aquarist to grow them outside their range in home aquariums. That way if the wild population dwindles you have a vast number of private stock to replenish their numbers. In fact one species of pup fish was saved from extinction by doing this very thing.

BTW, Lake Manly had water the end of 2023. They had kayakers, no boating per se, but the kayaks floated. Very other-worldly to see. As for endangered species of fishes, there is also the Pahrump Poolfish at the Desert National Wildlife Refuge not too far from Death Valley. They have a refugium that houses much of the remaining population of the species in what amounts to an aquarium. Interesting to contemplate that aquarium is all that prevents the species from going extinct. Nice to know people can be awesome.
