These TROLL Levels are Both RUTHLESS AND GENIUS

Decided to check out two troll levels that are actually genius creations. Of course I had to get the world record afterwards.

It got undermined a bit by the fact that he took damage in the last part of the previous segment and went into the Wisdom room with no powerup, so he had a confusing experience.

Actually I think it was undermined by someone telling him he needed to not have the Master Sword before he went into the last room. I think Poo did this level a few months ago and was completely baffled, did the same thing Panga did, and had the confusion of “why is it there only sometimes” and was still blown away by it because the mechanic wasn’t spoiled through chat.

@@louisrialland2527 Progressive powerups. When you're Link, you're considered to have a Mushroom, so any progressive powerups are now Fire Flowers. Since Mushrooms move and Flowers don't, you can make machines that react in different ways to the powerups.

another way you can cheat the color changing sound effect troll is pay attention to your own character's palette. since you were playing as toad, you could immediately rule out both of the pipes on the right, as they match toad's colors, meaning they have to be the orange and blue pipes respectively additionally, you can use that information to quickly figure out that the filter just shifts the hue of the entire screen to a nearby color you can tell this because the orange pipe turned green, which is near orange, and the dark blue pipe turned magenta, which is near dark blue if it's a nearby color, then the far left pipe is out too, as cyan is completely OPPOSITE of red on a color wheel, and the color shift has to be to a nearby color

AP SonPac there are two doors, the blasters are one block offset between reaching the area for the first time and spawning at the checkpoint, meaning you go in a different one of the doors. Reaching the area the first time has you go in a door that trains you to hold right. This causes you to, after respawning, hold right while entering the door, which the player doesn’t know is a different one, and go straight into the cp1 pipe

Looking at Toad, you can tell that the third pipe is blue and the fourth pipe is yellow. If you're not Toad, you can also look at the background. The dungeon blocks tell you that blue is now pink/purple and that the yellow/orange arrows are now green. Between the first two pipes, there isn't any way to tell unless you're playing mario or luigi. Panga said he compared the darkness or shades of the colours but that doesn't help as all share the same shades except the blue pipe.

I just did the test myself and can confirm that mario is yellow. Therefore the red pipe looks yellow.

Most Mario Maker youtubers that play troll levels enjoy being confused and being caught by everything. They laugh and stumble their way through, but not Panga. Panga is cold and calculated. He tears through troll levels.

8:15 the two blasters are covering an extra door, when you walk in from the left, something above the level is spawned that puts them one tile to the right, which has the small blaster cover the door to the pipe, but if you die and appear at the checkpoint, you don't spawn the contraption above you which puts the blasters one tile to the left (where they are in the timestamp) and cover the door to the spike trap. The pipe door recycles you to the previous checkpoint because that puts you in a position to respawn the contraption and try the doors again

I feel like everyone I've watched play this level incidentally discovered the vine early. There might have been a way to design the section just before the vine, such that the progressive power up that changes the switch state is further left on screen, and so spawns sooner; that way, a player that takes damage in the hallway with the spike ball already has the sword/flower spawned rather than the mushroom, and cannot progress. But given that the reveal is like, *right* after the room with the vine, I don't think it's a huge loss. In fact, it sort of served as its own troll. I can't remember who (I want to say it was Carl though), but I remember one streamer taking damage and discovering that the switch automatically changed, and then assuming that was a troll they'd discovered, so when they came back through as Link, they purposefully left the switch state red, and the switch didn't automatically change, and they were like "wait what?"

I've seen it in another level where if you don't have a power-up you get a mushroom that triggers a note block / mechanism to open the path forward, but if you go in with a power-up it turns into a fire flower and it's forced death / restart. What that Link level taught me is Link suit counts as a power up. Without it you get the mushroom that opens the path forward, but with it the mushroom progresses (betting to a fire flower since it's stationary) and the path to the end never opens (most blockades Link can get through, but you never get the vine and are forced to either die in the pit or take the alternate route to the forced death hint room).

A good trick for the colors stuff is look at your character, toad is blue so there was a blue pipe same color as toad, if toad had fire flower he would have been blue with red dots, two color discarded

as much as i enjoy that you love the troll levels enough to optimize them, i should warn you that some are more speedrun friendly than others. Just as one example, the one making the rounds with the other troll players right now is built to be as long as possible, but required a dev exit for uploading purposes. Looking at the current records for such a level require them to find the dev exit, and i assume most of them dont have anything of value for the speedrunners.
