I feel like some people will put any babies there, human or animals, as long as they'll get money, views or just attention from it. It's sad and messed up, but the issue is that people who know how wrong and messed up doing something like this is would also never do anything like that. People who are doing it will never bother to use their brains and think something like "Hm, maybe I should not be doing that, maybe it's not right or good for that animal/s. How would I feel if someone did this to me?" They care only about the numbers and they are getting them, people will watch or send those people money (nope, no idea for what or why, but then again I can not know that since I don't think the way these people do)

@@silvers_ink you can establish a tank without fish. A good cycled tank needs beneficial bacteria, which feed on fish waste products and (mostly) clean the water and maintain the PH. You can buy the waste product they feed on in chemical form, and you can also buy starter bacteria. you then spend....i think its like 4-6 weeks? growing your beneficial bacteria. You track this by continuing to add the chemical food to the water, then test the water and track PH changes. Once the beneficial bacteria can keep the PH level stable, you can safely add fish

You could get a decent tank for $50 in USA if you know what you are doing, particularly if you find a deal on craigslist or offerup and are willing to clean and rehab a dirty tank someone is getting rid of. Also petco does their 'dollar per gallon sale' on tanks once or twice a year but the tanks that are part of that sale don't come with anything included so you have to add on filter, lights, hood or cover possibly, and a stand probably. People like the cheap plastic starter kits because they are cheap and they are "everything you need" even though they are all tiny and made of plastic that decays and gets brittle over time not to mention what it might do to the water. The better quality 'starter kits' cost upwards of $60 for a 5 gallon or $75 for a 10 gallon. Which is still worth it if you care about your fish.

@Rat_in_a_bucket I've both bought and sold preowned tanks and even gotten some for free here or there from people. And often people are eager to get rid of them because they take up kind of a lot of space, so you can get a good deal if you're willing to travel and pickup from them. The one downside is that it depends a lot on what's available in your area but other than that it's the way to go.

They spread such important information, like not mixing predator and prey animals or not releasing your animals/burying or dumping dead pets. The mixing predator and prey animals really gets me, I see it all the time, people thinking it’s cute, that the animals are friends, etc. Like, honestly, just why, anything can happen, one of them can get spooked, it takes one second, WHY would you risk something so horrible like that so that your animals can completely unnecessarily be friends!? Gets on my nerves. And then the idiots are SO surprised when it ends badly and their pet is seriously injured or even killed!

When my Mocha (Hamster) was alive I was terrified of my cats even getting near his enclosure and did everything I could to keep the cats from getting to it, so seeing people purposely putting their cat and hamster together is sickining (I think that's how you spell that word)

The hamster one is gross for the flinging. My hamster, the larger kind, had 14 babies (not through my doing). Her nest was next to her enclosed wheel and sometimes they would go in but she was good about removing them back to nest. Every single one of her babies survived to the separation stage. She was so friendly and loved my hand in there distracting the babies so she could leave. She had one of those plastic cages with one of the tubes connecting to a tank behind it.

I am a new teacher wanting to have a classroom fish for my students, but I have zero experience with keeping a fish and am terrified of accidentally hurting one (and traumatizing my students). The more research I’ve done, the more complicated caring for a fish has seemed. Watching your videos has really made me want to look into it again, though. Any suggestions for an “easy” first-time fish? I have a 5 gallon tank with a filter that someone gave me.
@TheDoomSheep Жыл бұрын
As a former fish owner of some of the "easy" fish like guppies, I don't think any fish is a good idea as a classroom pet because they are expensive and high maintenance and you would need a second aquarium at your home to transfer the fish to during weekends and holidays and summer break. Doing aquarium water changes takes a lot of time and is pretty messy and you would be lugging a bucket or two of water to wherever the closest bathroom is which might be far from your classroom. Fish themselves can be quite fragile and might die unexpectedly in a short amount of time even if you did everything right, they can't be handled by the kids which is probably a bummer for them, and the kids are DEFINITELY going to tap the glass no matter how many times you tell them it's bad for the fish. I'd also be worried about some kids doing something that might harm the fish more directly like putting objects in the aquarium that might be toxic or trying to catch the fish when you aren't looking.

I had a hamster when I was a kid, my sisters friend threw it at a wall and she had done it so much to her own hampster she immediately knew it was in shock… I haven’t gotten a hamster since because every single person I have met mistreats their hamsters and I’m so scared I’d let someone hold them

Seeing bettas in tiny tanks has always bothered me. I had one for years, in a 20 gallon. They're so much more personalitied with space. He had a bestfriend who was a neon tetra, they went everywhere together and were always very active. It was also the only fish in the tank my beta allowed to exist.
@zumathevenomousoctoling6997 Жыл бұрын
The best analogy I made with myself about why such a small fish needs a big tank is pretty simple, actually! You need a house or just a room to live comfortably? A house obviously A house in the size of a room wouldn't be comfy for you because it would be way too tight for everything you need to do!

I went to the pet store today and entirely forgot how many shitty products are sold at places like that- They've stopped selling those crappy hamster cages at least at the store near me, but they still sell hamster balls and the conditions for the fish and birds that aren't budgies are just so sad to see-

the only way a cat n hamster would be friends is if you raised them from birth together, and even then when the kitten is older, its instincts would get stronger when it reaches adulthood (a year old or so) that it would priobably still attack the hamster at that point

A 1.5 gallon tank is too small for a living fish but you could put a robotic toy fish in it for a kid's room as long as they learn how to properly clean the tank and take out the robotic toy fish when they aren't in use....

I found an insta account with a dog and a rabbit, but it's surprisingly really good from what I've seen. The dog has never shown any body language or behavior to show that he wants to harm the rabbit. I believe she said she doesn't leave them alone unsupervised, but the dog and rabbit cuddle and it's kinds cute, but they've clearly been properly introduced and the dog doesn't perceive the bunny as prey. I can't remember the exact name, but it's some combo of the pets' names, which are Bear (dog) and Mighty Smols (bunny). Idk if what they're doing is ok or not but it doesn't seem like it's harmful to either as long as the dog doesn't one day see the bunny as prey

Me and my mom bought a ball python impulsively. Luckily, we had a really large tank that a friend of her’s wanted to sell because it was empty. It had old, completely dry pinewood in the background. We got a uv light, a basking light, MULTIPLE hides and water bowls (for additional use) etc etc. He has yet to eat, but he’s at least confident. He’s climbed up the branches three times so far. He’s a very confident little boy. His shed was a beautiful “full” piece (it tore when we took it out) Sorry for rambling, I just love him so much
