David I was hoping you were going to Review the Monitor Pilot. Any chance you could Hook it up and let us know how it performs, especially against the Drawmer (you used to have?) and on good monitors. Also, curious how it actually works. Is Audio actually moving through the remote of just controls. Are there relays in the unit for ABC switching? Are the trims just 10k pots? As someone with a really nice monitor controller and Monitors, I'm sure you have opinions or insight on how this unit stacks up. If the quality is good, it's an unbelievable price/features package. But not if it colors or degrades the signal between your mix and monitors. And I've been revisiting this thing since it came out, but can't find ANY actual reviews.

Color is a big word for today's monitor controllers, I wouldn't say color, but they can be more or less accurate, precise, detailed etc.. It depends if they are passive or active, it depends on your DA too. But nowadays, building good DA's is not that expensive, both those brands make great ones.

@mixbustv Жыл бұрын
If you're in the box, it doesn't matter, zero, nothing, nada. Anyone giving numbers doesn't understand the basics of mixing, gain staging and mastering. If you're using analog, the level(s) will be dictated by your specific chain. Shooting for a given LUFS in mixing is completely useless and a waste of time and brain power.

Nice video David! If the knob of the Monitor Pilot is as good as the Level Pilot I recommended it 100%. I've been working with my old Level Pilot since the day TC release it and it still works like new. I only take it off from my set up because I had to bought a UA Pollo Twin and it has a big control knob, but it has been a must have until then. I have in mind the Monitor Pilot if I bought a new pair of monitors, of course! Right now, I was looking to buy the Clarity M, so this video it's perfect for me, it's a great peace of gear. I love the TC products (but I have to say I hate TC as an owner of 2 PoCo's, but this would be for another video). Thanks again!

Quite frankly this cost about $400 I don't see the purpose of having an external metering system. When there are plugins that do a phenomenal job for the same thing for a fraction of the cost. I have like three LCD monitors so I have a lot of monitoring real estate. I guess if you wanted to mix a live event and you didn't want to bring a computer or laptop or tablet. I just don't see me paying $400 just for this. Thought there was some more additional benefit but nah.

@mixbustv2 жыл бұрын
This is one of the dumbest comment ever. So a compressor is relying on it because you're too lazy to do volume automation? Eq makes you lazy because you didn't move the mic? Why don't you code you own DAW, or build your speakers? Or go cut a tree to build your speakers first? What about the building your studio is? Such ignorant comment. Ignorant because you obviously do NOT know what this does and how useful is. Every engineer in the world uses meters, I promise you it doessn't make you cool to say what you just said, just showing you actually don't know.
