I always wonder with these Indicators; is price actually respecting these bands or are the bands merely snapping to what price is doing. 🤔 it looks good in hindsight but it might be more prudent to use supply/demand zones/order blocks when actually trading in real time.

Yeah it’s a bit of both, as the bands don’t fully form until the next candle but you get used to how they behave with some experience. I like to use rsi with BB’s for confirmation, especially when the rsi has a divergence.

@@swooopg cool. I dropped all of that stuff for market structure (well I guess VWAP counts) but I often wonder about whether I should use something else. The problem is with s/d zones or volume profiles drawn on the chart it gets waaay too cluttered. Some people use quarterly VWAP and/or VWAP bands.. the combinations are limitless.

@@divinasi0n I agree 100%. I hate cluttered charts! I like to open a 5 minute chart for my BB’s and rsi only, then I will look at many different charts for s/d but I like 30 min and higher. It’s like everything else…one individual indicator is almost worthless but if you can get 3 things to line up at once you are usually golden. Patience is key, some days you may only trade one time but you have to be ready when it sets up!

I’m not sure exactly how it works but I use settings of 20:3 and if the price action extends past that line the price reverses.

I mentioned this trading technique to Barry Burns on one of his Bollinger bands videos, about a month ago; hoping that he might look into it and make a video like you have done.👍I’ve been using the same set up for most of the last 12 months. Been mostly using 1 and 2 deviations. Did experiment with a 2.5 deviation instead of the 2, which has its advantage of filtering out good turning points a bit better. I also experimented with different length bands but settled on the 200 as the most useful. The beauty about moving averages and by default, Bollinger bands; is the mean reverting nature of price. The multiple deviations pick up the energy changes beautifully as you just demonstrated. Using other moving averages (ie 50SMA) or even standard Bollinger bands can also help in picking up turn points. It’s remarkable how, when a moving average crosses either another ma, or a deviation line on The Bollinger’s, how price will form a wedge being constrained between these two lines! Keep up the great videos.

all indicators lag (in diff ways). including candlestick really. possibly the only closest thing to pure now-ism will be the line (instead of candlestick). people in the Andrew's school of thought (inventor of the "pitchfork") are working extensively with median lines, in essence, plotted in specific ways. They will argue that the "pitchfork" acts as a leading indicator. I know what they mean, and i think it can be very useful def (if plotted correctly!! very important and takes time and practice), but in fact its not actually a leading indicator, but a plotting of possible zone price movement can go, if trend (small or large) continues. That if is always present actually, in any approach one uses, and that's where probability assessment of the situation (to breakdown or move up, etc.) is of value, in combination with strong use of risk mgmt , consistently.
