Power Hour Cleaning Motivation Hack

Busy days equal big messes! Tonight I had to choose between the couch and a clean house in the morning. I made up a game with my timer to clean the whole house in one hour - enter the POWER HOUR! Not to be used every day, just for those times when you have a bit of extra energy and want to get something done. This is the ultimate cleaning motivation game - set your timer for 5 minutes and let's clean up this disaster!

I think that the series of 5 minutes per room also helps because it means you prioritize the most important jobs in each room instead of getting sucked into doing detail-work in the living room while there is still tons of dishes and laundry to do

Why was this so satisfying to watch?? Can’t wait to try this for myself. I often find myself moving from room to room because I find something that belongs in a different room and then get distracted in that room for a bit until I find something else that doesn’t belong and the cycle repeats.

I know this might seem odd, but my friend and I love to visit cemeteries. I live just outside Chicago, so there are a lot of gangsters (Al Capone’s grave is a popular one) and leaders of business. Mr. Sears, of Sears Roebuck and Mr Ward, of Montgomery Ward are said to haunt each other’s crypts! No expense was spared in the architecture of the private mausoleums and stained glass windows … some of them are nicer then a lot of private homes. The trees are beautiful and especially after a holiday there are flowers and flags decorating the graves. It’s peaceful and you’re outside walking around and it’s fun learning about the back stories and history of some of the people whose graves you try and find.

Your 5x5 method has really helped me with motivation! I’ve done it as a strict 5x5 but also gone a little longer. My house is much smaller than yours so sometimes I just set a second 5 min timer for the same room. Also, I really appreciate your willingness to share your mess! And I so agree with the 5 min per room idea. I’m pretty good at keeping up with my kitchen but I often get it spotless and then I’m overwhelmed and don’t do any other room. And the mess just builds in those rooms!!

It's winter here in Australia - but probably still much like a cool summer day there. lol. It's the shorter days that do my head in. But on the longer days in Summer I love a good cold beer and a BBQ dinner with minimal clean up and or take away at a local park. Swimming !!! We live in Arizona, and love swimming every night in the heated, salt water pool across from our home. We swim all year long here. You are the perfect ambassador for this product ! Fav summertime activity- since my kids grew up, graduated college & flew the coop I struggled. Summers were always based on their schedules & I loved it! Now, I found me :). We are a family of 4 , that loves hiking and biking. I am the only girl in my family of smelly guys! I own a 14 , 19 an 40 something year-olds. They are always very sweaty and stinky with " boy" smell 😍. True Earth sounds like an AMAZING product that could be very helpful for our house 💕

I love this idea! This is a great motivator! I already use your 5x5 very often. (And use your 5x5 timer video for my timer as well) How do you handle distractions (kids mainly) when doing this? Do you pause your timer? For me I struggle with distractions breaking my motivation. Just curious how you handle them.

I’ve only just come across your channel, I admire your 5 minute rule and think I’m going to try that, I’m nearly 60 so a bit set in my ways but I’m always open to try new ways😊 As a Brit though I was quite shocked to see your tap continually running, here in the UK even from a young age we’re taught to switch off the tap (faucet?) even when cleaning our teeth, so while your brushing the water isn’t running.
