It’s amazing how through human history, which is full of grief, sorrow, and hardship, that we can all come together in appreciation for one of nature’s greatest gifts. That we all can come together even when borders and oceans separate us, for incredible and delicate beauty. If only we could foster this universal appreciation more in all of our societies!

Rose breeding is one of the few bastions of fragrant plant breeding. I mean its very easy to find a fragrant rose (aside from obvious scentless lines like some Kordes roses and Knockout roses). Now if you were to look at other plant breeding like orchids, specifically Phalaenopsis, thats where fragrance is tragically lost. Other types of plants that have suffered this fate include petunias, magnolias, and many other.

The rose A roses petals, soft and sweet Delicate, fragile, so discrete The baby buds are wound so tight A red rose black on a cold dark night The thorns that hide beneath the prize Vary in sharpness and in size Yet they have never stop us from admiring, Odd how a flower could be so inspiring. So many petals to make one flower, Their numbers great, increase their power, They bloom from spring, right through till fall, They are given by lovers, yet admired by all...

I just recently discovered your series, I have watched, of course, 'Rose-Queen of Flowers', but also 'Sea of Creepy Monsters' and 'Limits of Perceptions'. It makes me aware of the Universes within the Universes. I was going to say Worlds within the World but it's more than that. My next journey is Sky Hunters. I love butterflies and Bees but it's Dragonflies that really capture my interest and imagination (along with Praying Mantises). As a gardener I have great respect for those who rid my plants of aphids and Japanese Beetles. Thank you for your dedication to opening eyes and minds. Have a great day and follow your bliss.

While in Utah, my garden was filled with vintage breeds that had lovely scents and large bright blooms. Then I moved to Oregon and discovered that most sold here are floribunda's with no scent. I now have figured out why so many unscented beauties. Looking to my few transplants from dry Utah, they are suffering from the morning moister here from the coast. Brown spots and a plague of powdered mildew make constant work. This year am am trying some Hugo's

I love all flowers. The rose is certainly beautiful, and some smell wonderful, but for me the flower of spring is the Lilac.
@tackssherbo71049 жыл бұрын
gmaureen Yes!!! Indeed it is and it has perhaps the most magnificent scent on this planet. I haven't been there in years, and I don't know if they still have it, but the city of Rochester, New York had a massive lilac garden--similar to the cherry blossom gardens in Japan (and now in Washington, DC)--that was open to the public. You could just sit there forever and get "high" on the wonderful perfume. In fact, years ago, a perfume was developed called "Highland Lilac" which my wife used to buy. It was the most authentic lilac fragrance anywhere! In fact, besides wearing it, she would get tiny permeable clay scent pots and put a drop or two into a very light oil base and leave one in each of our baths. For some stupid reason, the company stopped making it (just like other very popular scents). She found a catalog from New England a while ago where that company arranged to have it made for them, so she got some again, although it is just a bit more costly. So, we now have it in our house again. :)
@gmaureen9 жыл бұрын
Tacks Sherbo Thanks for the info on "Highland Lilac", I just ordered the perfume. The scent of lilac is my absolute favorite but, as you mentioned, its almost impossible to find something that comes close to the real flower. As a teen, I remember burying my head in the lilac bush trying to make a scent memory because, as you know, you only have a month or so each year to revel in that smell.
@tackssherbo71049 жыл бұрын
gmaureen Fantastic!! I KNOW you will really enjoy it. It is the closest thing to burying your head in the lilac bush. :) I'll tell my wife. She'll be pleased. I remember several years ago while I was in my lawyer's office, a lady walked in and the first thing I could sense was that wonderful lilac scent! I said to her, "You're wearing Highland Lilac!" That came out of my mouth so fast, then I was embarrassed because I had never seen her before. She smiled and asked how I knew, and I told her my wife loves it, and so do I. Then she told me she puts a drop or two in little scent pots. So I told my wife, and she scurried around looking for those tiny clay scent pots herself. That's how we wound up having them in our baths. :) .
@lauriebolles31499 жыл бұрын
+Tacks Sherbo Believe it or not Avon did a really good job with their Lilac, Honeysuckle and Rose scented soaps. I would put a bar in my dresser draws and closets. My parents and I moved to a piece of property drenched in sunlight, I had 6 raised gardens built one I wish to dedicate to roses. On the West side of the house I had a stand of dwarf Lilacs put in. In the Spring I start opening the windows again and to my delight their fragrance erases the long cold Winter. I'll have to look for the Highland Lilac. Have a nice day and follow your bliss.
@tackssherbo71049 жыл бұрын
Laurie Bolles Just one extra thought. I don't know if you have a spot available today. If you do---we have a rugosa rose that is perhaps 25 years old or so that has the most magnificent scent you can imagine. It literally explodes every spring with dark fuschia blossoms and fills the back yard with scent. Even my neighbors have commented on it when it wafts into their yard with a breeze. We plan on getting another one because this one is beginning to look a bit sad. It is called Rosarie d' la Hay and there are only maybe two places that still have it available. I guarantee that if you love rose scent, this one is absolutely unforgettable. If you Google it, you should be able to find it. There is a place in Texas that still sells them, but the name of the place escapes me at the moment. .
.secrets of nature 💝💝💝💖💖

Amen. God is so amazing and awesome and I love to see people praising his holy name on here. We need more of that ! Praise the lord God !! God bless u ! No offense though , but when we reference the lord it’s also important to distinguish and glorify him by even how we spell his name. God , not “ god”... bc the lower case g is to represent those false “gods” and we never wanna refer to our holy lord God in the same way, as it’s important to distinguish who you’re referring to and giving glory to ! Not trying to take away from what you were saying , by commenting that bc I’m not trying to be negative or to go around correcting people , in some derogatory way 😂. I just felt the need to express when it comes to the lord , as it’s just something I’ve Always felt we need to adhere to , when talking about (or really , when we’re writing or texting ) God Almighty! Take care and no hard feelings , I hope. I agree with your comment ! God bless u

This documentary is obviously sponsored. Peace has been over-produced, today it is a weak rose. I think the idea of breeding a rose that succeeds from Norway to Tanger is the main mistake. We live in Provence, Knockout was a complete Knockout. Having found a documentation of a rose garden at Nice around 1900 finally made us figure out the right strategy. Roses for southern climates with own roots. They are all antiques, you don‘t find a modern rose recommended for your specific climate. They all have a fragrance and have their own personalities. All of them take a break in the summer heat, but except for February we always find a flower in the garden. Our chief gardeners, wild bees and wasps et all love them. We mainly buy them from a nursery in Italy and one in Provence.
