One of the best rose care videos I have ever seen. Many times I see these and 1/4 way through I’m saying...but you can’t do that, or they forgot or skipped something. He missed nothing ...well except pegging...and everything flowed well and his presentation along with Bob’s was great. The information was super and right on target in accuracy. Well done..would love to visit. If you grow your roses like he suggests, you will have great long lived bushes as in decades and generations. Great job!

Just discovered you can still buy his roses from Garden Valley Ranch. I thought that was long gone but not so. He had over 8,000 varieties at one time, i’ve not bought any from them but will check Dave’s Garden Watchdog to see how the reviews are.

Thank you very much for a very informative video; rose plant care that includes planting, watering, fertilizing, pruning techniques, and a lot more to mention, are worth all my time. I appreciate your generosity in sharing all, including precautions in handling tools and chemicals. This year will be my first completed year as a rosarian, if I may call myself one. I can't wait to see my yellow floribundas come back to life this spring. I also intend to add more grandifloras and climbing types. I will be watching this video once again to guide me through. I think it's the only video a beginner should watch. There are a lot out there that add to the confusion in a new gardener's schema. Where can I order 2-toned roses that you showed in this clip?

I have clay soil and near a roof drain the roots rotted twice. I think the roots were suffocated from not getting any air. The third time I planted a rose there I added compost, gypsum and perlite to the original soil. I brushed on a liquid root simulator on the roots because the last time I did that it worked great.

I don´t understand either why anyone would want such a rose! There are so many flower types that bloom all summer long and have no fragrance, but if I choose a rose, beside being healthy, must have a strong good fragrance but no citric-lemon-limete type of fragrance. I hate when roses smell lemon like!

I am looking for a miniature climbing rose that the bud is a deep pink and as it opens up turns white. The petals in full bloom are always a perfect full rose. I had one of these when I bought my property, but when a basement was being put in the contractor dug it up and discarded it. It was very fragrant as well. I have no clue as to the name of this rose. Hopefully, you can help me. Maybe with some pictures or names that I can look it up on the computer to see if it is the one I am looking for. Thank you.

I have watched this several times - just enjoy seeing the beautiful grown gardens and was familiar with the gardens though I never purchased any. It is now or was a display garden and not a production or retail garden. I have been gardening for 50 years and roses and iris were my first purchases. The problem today is no one grows retail roses for sale that are like this anymore. It use to be the standard not these tiny cuttings we get today. They push own root - not because it makes better bushes but because they can make money faster and easier. Also we don’t have many decent budders/grafters to do good grafts. It takes at least 2 years to grow a grafted rootstock before you can graft the top stock (the rose you want) to it compared to the 5-8 months (sometimes they ship them that have barely rooted). I have gotten them with just a couple of roots - spend $15-20 for something that needs at least another year and really 2 years before you can set it out. 😖😤. Grafting work in the field is hard backbreaking work - you spend 6-8 hours bent over at the waist doing the budding of the two stocks. All that said - the reason roses were grafted in the first place is because many had beautiful flowers but their growing nature was not so good - weak, stems that wouldn’t grow up strong to hold the weight of the flowers, didn’t have strong roots, had disease issues, etc. By grafting to a strong rootstock rose like Dr Huey and a few others - the top stock picked up its great characteristics. The only advantage to own root (besides to the guy selling cuttings) is if it is damaged to the ground (kids run over a bush with a bicycle, brutal cold winter. Etc), if it isn’t killed to the root, it will come back the same as it was to begin with. A grafted rose will come back but if the top was damaged and killed, then the root stock (the Dr. Huey, a pretty little dark red) will come back, not the pink Tiffany or red Mr Lincoln you originally purchased. I have heard some state that grafted roses won’t last but a few years - well there are grafted roses, including in my yard, at least 25-30 yrs old and other old gardens where they can be 35-50 years old. You do need to plant them correctly making sure the graft is placed at least 3-4” below the soil so it’s not exposed to cold in the winter. If you live in very cold zones then you will want to plant the graft bud deeper as recommended for your area and you may want/need to tie the branches together, put a big round metal cage (made out of roll of heavy cage like you would for tomato plants - not those weak little cone shapes. A company called AM Leonard sells a square tomato cage that’s either 14” or 60”
