Instead of an 80 needle, I would recommend a 65 or 70 needle as your holes will be smaller and I would use a 60 or 80 weight polyester thread. There are a lot of quality fine threads available these days. But I believe your patch will hold up longer than the rest of your tent floor!

Sew an "X" across the patch rather than around, this method secures the repair with the least amount of perforations. Then seem seal the stitching. This method is least compromising to the fabric.

Circles man not squares to cover holes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! then corners can't turn up and come off.
