The reason houses are like that is not because the ¨Great Flood¨ conspiracy theory... In Imperial Russia, building codes and tax laws often assessed properties based on the amount of livable space above ground. By building the basement partially below grade (underground), homeowners could reduce their tax burden and comply with building codes while still having additional storage or living space. That kept going on decades after the Imperial Russia was gone for aesthetic reasons and also to reduce taxes in the properties.

If that were true, they would not have built doors and windows half buried. When they dig these buildings out, you can see the truth. They are not basements.
@bonaudi
@bonaudi 9 күн бұрын
@@yvonnepoole141 FYI, the minimum height of a window to make those floors taxable is 61cm, and those basement windows are clearly no more than 40cm. Also the height of a basement roof was considered at the time of taxation, they checked the available space that was habitable or not. In most of the western countries the minimum acceptable height of a roof was/is 6,8 feet, and in Imperial Russia (pre 1917) was the same. I can not argue with illuminatis, I prefer to spend my time with reasonable people... but carry on! you are free to believe anything you want my dear. Have a nice day!

As for Ankh-Morpork, mostly Morpork, as the old city was razed, burned down as a hobby and generally destroyed, new floors were built on older floors, using material from those old floors for newer floors. Who in the world would dig 6 feet below ground level to make an entrance. Simultaneously I noticed an old church about 15 miles from here with the same thing. Both of them are older than anything else built around them. I’m tempted to go into the chamber of commerce and ask about the history of that old church in our town. Dan, you're one of the few (maybe the only) historians who are preserving these images of areas which may not be around a lot longer. Clearly these neighborhoods have been neglected (which often happens when a nation's resources are channeled to other endeavors and different priorities). The graffiti, the poor drainage in the streets, the crumbling facades and poorly maintained buildings... unfortunate. You have a very good "eye" for architecture that is "off" -- out of proportion and lacking harmony (as you correctly describe it.) And there's a lot of it here. This is one of the few areas that you've taken us to that I feel could be described as "depressing." But every country in the world has them, and it's important to show the truth, whether or not it's "petty." Thank you.

Good job adding some background music. That tree we call in America is a CRAB APPLE tree. You can research the proper name but those red apples are called crab apples. You cannot eat them. The birds love them. I really enjoyed seeing the old designs on the buildings. Thank you my adorable. Oh, it is NOT a crossroad. You were correct, it is called a cross WALK whenever there are painted lines for pedestrians to cross the street.

As you stole through the streets of your city, you are showing we the people of the world, centuries of Russian History. Thank you for your personal feelings and perspective on what your country has gone through. By Russian standards the USA is a relatively young country but we have many things in common, most important to recognize is that no matter what country we see and explore those in control want the power to control us. Keep up the great work. Trust me, the message is being recognized. GOD BLESS

Ty Dan for the lovely tour! I love architecture and there is a lot to appreciate. That mural on the building with the man sitting under an umbrella was quite unexpected but enjoyed. That summarizes life: relax, enjoy the beauty God has created and leave a positive footprint in your space! Always be alert and helpful when you can. It is better to give than receive because the receiver is surprised and great full…… the giver has truly helped a person in need and can feel happy for the receiver. Win- win situation! God bless your family. Hugs n ❤❤❤❤Your American friend, CarrieJo/NC 😊

First floor as in once was the first floor or do they have basements? If they were originally the first floor what caused the community to raise the road level. Road raising has happened in several American cities (Seattle, Sacramento). Primarily due to flooding issues.
