I saw your colored loads, made me laugh. When I moved to Oregon they had a late season for deer. I wanted to hunt on an area that was shotgun only. I had a number of ball head fishing jigs with rusty hooks. They were about 30cal. I removed the hooks and loaded up painted buckshot with eyes on them. Shot a nice blacktail buck at about 30yds. That buckshot could see where it was going.

FYI some Buckshot loads bulge the hull and will jam when feeding, so to make sure the hulls will chamber you can slip the sizer over thr plastic part of the hull, and if it sticks, it's bulged out too much, so it should just slide down to the brass easily.
@theshotgunscientists

The final crimp tube usually takes care of that when it does happen. I’ve not really had issues with feeding or hull dimpling. Sometimes I’ll see slight dimpling on the plastic from the pellets, but it’s never been a problem.

I seem to have hull bulging problems when using Cheddite hulls and any 00 or 000 buckshot. I think it’s because I’m pressing the load down to hard before crimping it. Doesn’t happen with Federal hulls.

00 buck shot won't stack evenly in any 12Ga shell if you use some kind of Wad or Wrapping. 000 just for 10 Ga. If you use a Wad you have to downsize to #0 or #1 Buck. Still perfect for Deer as long as you can place 3 pellets in the boiler room.

00 buck stacks just fine by 2’s in a few wads for 12 gauge. The mg42, short shell wad, and target wad, and clbc wad. It stacks by 3’s without a wad. 000 buck if it’s .35 cal stacks by 2’s in most target wads. If it’s .36 cal 000 you have to skip wads just a gas seal and fiber wadding or cushioned gas seal. 0000 buck which is .375 cal is the biggest size that stacks by 2’s in 12 gauge. .36 cal 000 buck is the biggest size that still fits by 2’s in 10 gauge wads.

Still prefer stacking the by 3's or 4's in wads. Made my Upland O/U I/C-Mod from a 25 yds Deer hunter to good patterning 40 Yds. The 000 .36 I Size and lube to load 2(Stacked)-Duplex in 38/357 for my S&W 36 or Mod 19 My go to deer load is 12 Buffered #1 in AA hulls because Gun likes them. And I tried many. Thank's, good Videos. But I went arround the long range shortcomings of My O/U when I got an old 30-30 Barrel and had it machined to fit the Under Barrel. Got a very nice 10 pointer at a bit over 100 yds.👍@@theshotgunscientists

Look up swaging your primer pockets... MannyCA has a trick to keep American primers from coming out of euro shells. I tried it on several Rio's, Fiocchi's and some B&P's and it works great. Will try out these buckshot loads

Do you guys have issues with videos getting strikes or taken down when you do reloading? I want to do more reloading vids but I’m worried about getting strikes. Seems like you and Wade Rush don’t have issues with them… do you monetize these or just upload them?

quick newby question. im looking over lyman #5 data. im finding them listing the waa12 wad is win, cheddite, fiocchi, and federal. i thought you needed tapered eads for tapered hulls and straight for straight hulls? thanks. subbed!
@theshotgunscientists
@theshotgunscientists 11 ай бұрын
You can use tapered wads in straight wall shells, but you have to flare out the bottom of the wad with pliers so they fit tight. Or you can take a 1” square piece of paper towel and set it over your hull before the wad goes in. Either will will stop any powder from moving where it shouldn’t go.

The .38 cal and .33 cal 1.5 ounce loads both shoot awesome. The one with the green wad WITH the petals is great if you want a little more spread at say 40 yards. I suppose I need to do a video on them.

I'm working on a project for my 12 ga Gas Operated Semi Auto (Benelli Clone I believe) We can't hunt with lead here where I live, but these are a load for 'Social Work' the gun has cyl or no choke so the pattern opens up quickly and I just want as many pellets in a 2-3/4" shell as possible #0 Buck preferred, because I have a lot of those.. Not seeing much load data for that... So thanks for the video. I'd like to see something using 800X because I found a big container of that back in 2019. Do you have any 800x ? It's discontinued. I made some using a Fiocchi hull, Flex Seal / FS12 wad, 28 gr Longshot just slightly less than 1-1/2 oz of pellets. I may reduce the powder charge based on what you say here . Thanks for your help.

If you want to load #0 buckshot pellet size doesn’t matter, it’s all about the payload weight 1.5 ounces lead is 1.5 ounces of lead no matter the size or shape of it. And yeah I do have some 800x

The B.P. X12X wad with a 3/8" cork on it and 16 .031" hard cast pellets (That's about 1/100 oz heavier than 1 1/2 oz) And fits into my magazine - Does 22 gr 800X seem too much? too little? Just right? The hull is a new Std Primed Fiocchi. Thanks if you get a chance to read and reply

If Your Hulls are straight walled(Not tapered as in integral Win AA) My old Du Pond manual is 27 Grns 800X(for about 1200Fps) and 25 Grns for tapered base Hulls with 1 1/2 Oz Shot. Slow heavy loads patern much tighter. As you increase speed paterns open. I use a bit heavier shot size because of the 1 1/2 Oz load. Use the hardest lead(Copper plated or Chrome plated even beter) for tight paterns for longer shots. Ballistic Products is were to shop for the heavy load reloader. See if you can get Blue Dot for the Magnum heavy hiters. Can put 35 Grns Blue Dot for 1 1/2 Oz loads. Kicks a bit more but you reach out further

I’m interested in getting started but what make you pull the petals of some loads and not others? Do you have to use buffer? And why do you put the bingo chip in the top?
@theshotgunscientists
@theshotgunscientists Жыл бұрын
True .33 caliber 00 buckshot won’t stack by 3’s in 12 gauge wads. You have to remove the petals or the pellets will bulge the hull out so bad it won’t chamber in your gun. If you use .31 caliber 0 buck this won’t happen, which is why many of us reloaders prefer .31 caliber. .31 caliber also fits by 2’s in full length non toxic/steel shot wads which basically double and even triple the effective range of buckshot loads. Buffer isn’t needed at all, but it does help with patterns at longer ranges. It keep the pellets from deforming so bad upon firing and passing through a choke. The bingo chips are mainly from roll crimping shells, they work like an over shot card which keeps your pellets and buffer from just falling out. They can also be used to raise overall stack height in the shell.

Why does hogden call for 30 grains of longshot?
@theshotgunscientists
@theshotgunscientists 2 жыл бұрын
There are several different loadings for all sorts of payload weights. 30 grains is generally for 1 7/8 ounce 3” loads. I’d imagine 30 grains would be a pretty good stout load for 1.5 ounces. I may try that one, I just really like the 26 grain load.
