They should sell a dvd of this paired with the dream works version a double feature and they could even have talks comparing the two and comments from the actors and even Scriptural references from the playwrights/creators and also talk about the historical aspect behind the costumes and scenery

I feel like the selling points of the animated movie were not only the beautiful scores and animation but also the strong emotional aspect of the story. In the stage version, scenes that required strong emotions were overshadowed by deliberate poses that took away the rawness of the scenes. I would’ve enjoyed it more had they took, at least the slaves scenes, a similar way to the beggars in Les Mis. Less beautiful poses, more acting.

A couple of years ago they filmed a West End version of the revival of "Ms Saigon", which WAS released in the UK as a non-regional Blu ray, so I would fully expect the same here. I'm hoping they do a theatrical release of it prior here in the states, though

One thing I especially liked about The Prince of Egypt is that God was real, not some impersonal force. And in the animated version the Angel of Death scene was scary and sad. When I was a child, In Sunday school, I kind of worried about that as I am a firstborn.

@@jordb4358 It may not have run forever, but the Dominion is a bloody big theatre with a lot seats to fill and to be fair, there was this little ol' thing called the pandemic right in the middle of the run, which may have had some impact on things.

Bruh, the animated movie had a giant budget, 60 mil, which in today's economy is closer to 110 mil. Animation will always be more expressive since you can extend your disbelief and visually impossible scenes and give exaggerated expressions to characters emotions. Of course this musical ain't gonna be on the same level as the movie, do you expect the little mermaid musical to be underwater? Also, listen to the musicals soundtrack. While I don't quiet know if this cast is the same as the musical's track, it is really good. I especially liked that they added in reprises and the songs feel longer. It also made me like songs I never really paid attention to in the OG movie, like "All I Ever Wanted".

As someone who grew up on this musical, I'm very curious how it was actually staged, but It's tragic that the score was so completely different from the source material. I expect changes in an adaptation, but it's like Schwartz completely forgot what worked about his own masterpiece. From the 1st moments of the show, when the Israelites are slaving in Egypt, toiling and dying in the heat of the desert sun, you feel the weight, and the lumbering hardship they live under...in the film. HERE it's a brisk walk along the nile! Sadly, the butchering of the tone and text of the piece just continues throughout. It's a pale imitation of the original work, which is a shame, because it had the potential(and arguably the artistic responsibility) to be one of THE definitive musical epics. Instead, they decided they needed to pad it out with poorly conceived, popy musical moments with contrived lyrics which frequently betray the strongest character moments of the original film(looking at you Pharoah) and the vocal direction of this show...man, this should have been classic and beautiful. Not trite, and poorly written. I think I'll always experience this adaptation as one of the biggest theatrical travesty of our time. And now I see I have VERY strong feelings about this show and the brilliant film it's allegedly based on. Oh my.

Eh, I strongly disagree. I saw it live and there are many impactful moments, quite a few moments remain unchanged. Plus the new songs that were composed for the musical are great. Footprints in the sand, never in a million years. People often forget that changes must happen when an animated musical is produced as a stage adaptation. Look at Anastasia for anothet example 😊

Also as a fan of the original movie, the musical soundtrack is great! Also poppy songs are your complaint? Have you heard there can be miracles from the original movie? It's arguably a very poppy musical theatre song. Also the vocal direction is a wonderful mix between contemporary and traditional musical theatre. If you're trying to sell a musical to the general public it needs to be contemporary sounding these days. Look at the westend and then tell me how many new popular musicals have a legit/traditional musical theatre vibe nowadays? There are lots of longstanding musicals that do like Phantom and Les Mis but not many new ones!

I agree. With adaptions to stage we generally will only get one chance of it, so when it’s done poorly it’s heart breaking as no one else is likely to attempt it (or be allowed to) for decades.
