It is rare to see the quality of ballet in a musical is at par to the big name ballet companies. Absolutely loved it.

This deserved a way longer run on Broadway/West End than it had. I don’t think I’ve ever seen another musical like this. And the top-tier ballet isn’t just a “one-off” “dream ballet sequence” in every other Broadway show attempting to inject ballet into their show. Having ballet throughout the show with a jazzsical score is just phenomenal.

@@manuelorozco7760Rhapsody In Blue.. Someone To Watch Over Me...I named a dog I had rescued from the street after he had been hit by a car. I was playing the aforementioned piece on my piano when this black Chow-Lab mix began scratching at my feet. Three days of trying different names--none did he like until the Gershwin tune was being played. I asked him: Ira? George? Gershwin? And so Gershwin it was. He was about two & lived til age 20. Why can't dogs live as long as humans are supposed to?

I love😍 this part of the show so much: where the music & ballet combine so well with the contemporary, modern, Art of the 1940/50s. With the costume's primary colours: reflecting Piet Mondriaan, and the moving stage & background elements reminding me of Lajos Kassák's work. 👌🏻

Does anyone know how they did her dress change at 4:33?
@ErinSnape3 жыл бұрын
I think you can see that on her second entrance with the yellow dress, it is a 'quick change' dress (she has on long white sleeves, covering the black dress under). So it probably has a velcro (or something similar) seam to just pull the dress off revealing the black underneath - then another dancer takes the yellow dress off. I'm no costume designer, just an avid musical lover so this is all just speculation.
@CaptainMargaret423 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I figured that's what it had to be, but I couldn't for the life of me pin down where the quick change dress went or which dancer ended up with it.
@11370LB3 жыл бұрын
@@CaptainMargaret42 My theory is that a different dancer comes on in the yellow dress just for the “change” part, with Leanne, now in the black dress hiding behind the shape on stage. In the darkness, and general melee, the two Lises change places, with yellow Lise going behind the shape as black Lise rises up, ready for that gorgeous dance.
