Question, How do you know how big the urn must be in order to contain all te ashes? Like is there a way of calculating that?

I have to ask the client about how much ashes they have. Sometimes it’s not doable to put all the ashes in because the size they may order is only a small sculpture size. I can always create another disguised urn container hidden in a sculpted favorite toy of the pet. Sometimes the owner is happy even they only put few ashes in because the family members actually divide the ashes for themselves. Most of the time, they are very appreciative that they can at least put some ashes in. My recent sculpture that I am working on, I made the urn bigger but I have to make the whole sculpture bigger too. I did not normally do that because many people won’t be able to afford higher priced pieces so I have to balance it out.

What size wires did you use for the armature? And what did you use to make it an urn?

You can use any aluminum wires as long as they can create stability and not flimsy. The details of the materials I used are all written in my book DIY Realistic Dog Sculptures 1. Please check it out. 😀

@@JoanCabarrusTheSingingSculptor I own all of your books. I loved the idea of making urns as I’ve been carrying around the ashes of 4 of my dogs. It looks like the sculptures are larger which make sense. I watched your video multiple times and couldn’t figure out what you sees to hold the shea and what you ad as a plug(?) looks like a pipe fitting? Anyway, I love your videos and books. Great job. You are very talented. 👍🥰

Can we do this with air dry clay?

I wouldn't recommend it because it will not give you the most detailed results. Air dry expands and cracks easily too.

@@glasc4229 actually, polymer clay is better than air dry clay because polymer clay won’t dry out. You can take all your time sculpting it and make changes. Air dry clay, you have so many worries to think about. Polymer clay, in my opinion, is way better for beginners. 🥰
