While the hypermasculine aspects of Batman are absolutely present and often a problem, I find that a lot of the most compelling Batman stories are ones that accurately explore how Batman is harmed by his over-reliance on that masculinity. The violence, the lack of emotion, the need to do everything himself, these are inherently tragic character flaws when written well. The very best Batman stories are ones where we see Batman actively struggle with these, much to the worry of his father-figure, Alfred.

Fun fact, along with homphobia, the CCA also was very much mysoginistic. Along with forcing female writers out, eventually leading into the oversexualazation of many fictional women, it caused several comic writers to poke fun at the thing. For instance, Power Girls boobwindow grew wider specificallt to push the boundaries. She hulk actually put a direct joke about this, labeling her underwear as 'protected by the comics code authority'.

I really liked Telltale's Batman because Joker is your buddy. He's like an adorable puppy who always wants to impress, but doesn't quite understand how and gets upset when he can't live up to Batman's strict and confusing morals. The entire time you feel sympathetic to him and he genuinely feels like your friend, you don't want to see him hurt or upset, and even when it all comes crumbling down and he turns into the villain, it still feels like he's your friend who's gone down the wrong path. They tried really hard to make it look straight: Bruce is with Selina and flirts with Harley, and Joker is crushing hard on Harley too, but it's very clear that Joker genuinely loves Bruce - whether romantically or platonically - and depending on how you play him Bruce feels the same but is just worse at showing it. Joker isn't some crazy obsessed psychopath, he's a guy with genuine mental health issues that make it hard for him to understand right and wrong, and he'll do anything to receive the approval and affection he's been lacking all his life. He tries to be good because it's what will make Bruce proud of him, but Batman has such high standards and is often so hypocritical that it's impossible to live up to them and it leaves John feeling like a disappointment. It's by far the deepest and most personal relationship between the two I've ever seen.

I want to play that game so much, it sounds so interesting! Also, reminds me of Jinx/Powder from Arcane. How she was constantly trying to impress and live up to what she thought other people's (Vander, Silco, Milo, and of course Vi) expectations were. She doesn't have any romantic feelings as at first she is just a child and then her emotional growth is stunted so she really just stays a child in an adult's body, but she _is_ presented as a misfit who doesn't fight like everyone else around her. For her, when everything comes tumbling down it's because she is trying to save her friends and prove that she CAN be useful, and we really want her to succeed in that...which of course makes it really sad when she is the reason it all goes wrong. After watching Arcane I heard a lot of people saying how they expected her to be a Harley Quinn but it turned out she was actually a Joker.

What does this movie have to do with Zack Snyder? secondly Batman vs Superman makes it somewhat clear what Batman is doing is wrong ranging from police and civilians fearing him to Alfred scolding him on his behaviour. The Ultimate edition does this even more by having Clark talk to a civilian. Basically point is that Zack understands the character he just choose to do something new with them Thirdly Just let people enjoy their films. If you don't like Zack's stuff that is cool! just don't go round trying to ruin it for those that do enjoy it

I know it’s been over a year since this video came out, but I wanted to say that this has become a bit of a comfort video for me. I’m not sure why, but I keep coming back to it. I recently discovered some of my friends have never seen this movie but I am determined to fix that soon! The world needs more gay Lego

This movie has the perfect definition of a Kismesis relationship, basically it is hating each other and through rivalries, you make each other better, plus it's an engaging movie.

Personally, idk if I'd call it "subversive queercoding" since it was all up in your face about the gay jokes.. but reading the comments now I guess some Straights just didn't??? Notice it??? THEY WERE SO LOUD THO LMAO

It's not subversive because it's hard to notice, it's subversive because instead of demonizing him it makes him more sympathetic to the viewers

At the end of the video op states that the queercoding in TLBM is subversive for subverting the Batman macho man mythos, not because the movie on its own is subversive

@Ty The Great you clearly didnt watch the video so I'm not gonna argue with you, but a whole movie based on two character's relationship isn't "just a gay joke".

the LEGO batman is literally the only batman movie to tackle Bruce's genuine fear and insecurities of commitment and having a family again. all the current movies are made for white cishet men who want to identify with the stone-cold, emotionless, hot vigilante who has Trauma, but doesn't show it, and who is only allowed to feel either anger or horniness. i also think that it's literally the only recent movie that even has Robin?? because if you add Robin to the mix, you WILL have to at least somehow address Bruce's feelings, and that's a big no-no, so all batman movies are basically solo + whatever chicks the writers throw at him
