My last salesman asked if I had children yet, and I said I did not. He later motioned to the spacious backseat of a Subaru and said, “I can picture it now. Ewwwww. A few years ago, I bought a minivan to use as a camper... Every sales person I talked to asked if I had kids. I don't want kids, and everyone in my life knows and respects this fact about me... So it was SO weird to have people ask me this, it was almost like culture shock lol. Like I understand why they would ask since I was looking at minivans, but then I had to keep answering the same questions because apparently it's unheard of for someone without kids to buy a van. I sold the van earlier this year, and literally every person who looked at it also planned to use it as a camper. So idk why those sales people were so confused.

When you’re getting anxiety because someone is making you uncomfortable, what you gotta do is turn it around on them. “The seat can recline all the way? Great! We want to try it out right now”. Be wary: the whole point of the tactics are to prey on those who struggle with high pressure social interactions or lack information on the product they're purchasing. They'll bully you without you even being able to pinpoint why you feel so uncomfortable with it, all with the hope that you'll be so flustered you'll go along with the sale just to get the conversation done with. If someone acts anywhere close to this, *especially* if they're trying to pressure you to sign a deal immediately without being able to check other options or do research, just walk away. They will take advantage of you if they can.
@Hadeshy
@Hadeshy 5 ай бұрын
And they will 100 take advantage of that. Trust me. Been victim of that. We wanted to have a look around in a store with my bf and suddenly they separated us and make us try (expensives) clothes and I was just awkwardly nodding hoping to get rid of them as fast as possible, and suddenly they showed me to my bf shouting "look how happy they are, you going to buy it for them are you. If you do, we'll make you a price" (well, no word for word of course, but you get the idea). And I tried to give my bf the look of "please no" as, since there was some distance between us I would've had to shout too to tell him not to buy the clothes. And without being able to communicate properly, my bf made the purchase

Who can interrupt 30s in and say, "ok, if he's not willing to just tell you the price, I reckon we try the next place." "If this sale is at a loss for this gent, I think we outta walk away." "You're saying it's a good price, but it seems really high to me. These blogs are from people who purchased this truck but negotiated the price down to $80k." When I was shopping for my first car a bit over a decade ago, I had one dealer say to me, "Yeah, you should only have to pay 24% interest once in your life on a car, never again." I asked him if he could take me on a test drive and stop at a couple of places to get some errands done before taking me back to the lot to talk numbers. He did that, and once we got back, I said "I'm not ready to buy anything yet. Still looking" before leaving. Ooooh, how this brought back horrid memories of buying my first two cars. Then the next two cars I bought using Consumer Reports' no-haggle car-buying service. Participating dealers contract with Consumer Reports to simply offer one reasonable price that Consumer Reports has skillfully negotiated knowing all the costs and expenses the dealer has and the current manufacturer's deals to the dealer. I bought my Subaru online for that one price, went to get it, signed some paperwork, paid cash, and drove away. The CR service costs about $20 as I remember and all you have to do is go online and ask for the CR price.

My favorite part about this crap is when they try to be all goofy and, with how straight-forward I am, I just act irritated and jump into "Stop wasting my time and get to the point". Watching their smile drop always brings me joy! Then negotiation happens swiftly and I can sign the damn paper, but only after I give it a thourough read and negotiate some more to naviagte the rest of their bullshit. Reasons why I stopped dealing with salesmen and only go through a used car dealer. Never have I ever spent more than 30 minutes, and everything is crystal clear.

When I bought my first car in 2009 the dealer (who had this southern gentleman accent) said “I was the most polite young man that ever came to the dealership” and he “wanted to give me the best deal” but had to check in first with this guy named Jim. So he told Jim and Jim started to “flip out”. They ended up doing this obviously fake good cop bad cop routine right in front of me. My frontal lobe wasn’t fully developed so at the time I actually thought it was real

Yes, ppl do. My parents went to buy a car for my mom. All she asked was that they do NOT put her in a little back room and make them wait there for hours while they run around behind the scenes. It’s a tactic where they wear you down by bringing a quote, saying hey I’m gonna ask my boss if I can lower this, then leave you sitting there while they go “ask”. They do it multiple times, making each quote sound like an amazing break until YOU break from being worn down, sometimes for hours. They did this to my parents and my dad is such a ppl pleaser that he went along with it, and went ahead with their sleazy sale tactics. My mom was so pissed she didn’t talk to him for a while afterwards 😅

I remember when we went to get my mom a car we went to one of those old style dealerships and the dude was bragging that "oh we sold a car to Steph Curry" and all I could think was "oh so you sold a car to someone who so rich they literally don't care about the price..." the funniest part though was when he went to get the keys for the car we wanted to try out, he waited in the back for 10 minutes as a "sales tactic" and then when he went to get the keys he straight up couldn't find them and it took 30 minutes...then he proceeded to show us these cars which somehow despite being new smelled like cigarette smoke and the second we left we went to one of those "One Subaru" dealerships that didn't do price negotiation and bought two cars in the same day...

I had to deal with a dude like this once. He called me a liar about a deal my buddy had got a few months earlier for the same car at the same dealer, and we exchanged heated words in the parking lot and I left for the night. He had a 💩 eating grin on his face when I walked in the following morning, thinking he was getting a sale from me. I blew right by him and sat down at another salesman's desk. Asked to speak to their boss, told him everything that happened. Ended up buying the car from the other salesman for the price I wanted and got free oil changes for life for the trouble.

There's black dust in the exhaust, the PCV valve is shot. There's corrosion on the battery diodes. Washer fluid isn't even full. Oh and their most favorite line to hear. "I wanna pay in full."
