Hi Daniel and Romi! Long time subscriber here and lately I've been dealing with a lot of insomnia brought on by pregnancy and anxiety, and so I've found myself on your channel again and really appreciating these videos! But I have to say, this one in particular has helped me so much!! I was able to sleep normally last night for the first time in a long time after many nights of 3-4 hours of sleep, so I wanted to say thank you so much!!! Being able to relate to others and see people in the same struggle building up their sleep confidence is just what I need :)

Romi also mentions that when he had sleep anxiety he was going to the bathroom a lot. I read that it is common by product of sleep anxiety since your bladder has nerves and when your body is in hyperarousal then the nerves in your bladder are activated.

Thanks for this interview Romi - I could resonate with so much you said !. I listened yesterday after an all nighter of insomnia the night before 😟. When you said you " hated yourself " after a sleepless night ,I'm in the same boat there - not a good thing to feel about one self .I think it stems from the perfectionist in us .I'm trying to change this mindset ( not easy ) Also magnesium glycine did the opposite for me too ,left me extremely restless . So much for the big reviews there ! Thanks again for this .Best Wishes . As Always Daniel, A Big Thank You to you for this lifeline of Hope☺

An amazing episode indeed! I have a question Daniel. I am going to start with my first ever job in few days. This has been my dream job and everything but overthinking about this and moving out of home to a different city makes me more anxious and obviously difficult to sleep at night. 2 weeks back I was in a position that I was sleeping well at nights as well as taking naps in noon time idk how I entered into that mindset but all natural. But now last 2 weeks it has been back and forth and I as well as my parents are so worried that will I be able to manage my work with this. I know so many here do. I just want to go ahead with my life decisions without reconsidering them because of something like this which I know is created in my head.

Hi Pooja, best of luck with your new dream job and congratulations! I am in a similar position, I haven't worked in 11 months due to my husbands job moving us and now since my insomnia journey began a few months ago I worry about starting a new job. I feel like Daniel will say it's important to do the things we are fearful of to prove that we can still do them despite sleep anxiety, atleast thats what I imagine him saying lol.

@@christinab2703 Hi, thankyou and congratulations to you too🩷 I think yes we need to take this leap of faith for our career and also to get over this sleep anxiety for good and forever. But I am still fearful it's difficult to explain in words but deep down I know I am.
@thesleepcoachschool8192 Жыл бұрын
Hi Pooja and Christina, I’d say first Pooja that it can help so much to see that two weeks ago, sleep happened thanks to lack of effort. This way we don’t think “I did something then, but now it doesn’t work.” Secondly, anyone about to start a dream job can sleep less! And yes, I wouldn’t maybe use the word important, because what we want has no requirements and the gentle path is so nice. But it can definitely help to do things we have been scared of… even if it feels scary we see there’s no real danger, and we can do amazing work even on little sleep.

@@thesleepcoachschool8192 Thanks for you words and motivation Daniel. I am having a real hard time deciding my course of action but I think I should take this leap of faith and go ahead with this job and environment change and everything and maybe it turns out to be even better for me.

Hello coach, How can I deal with intrusive thoughts and hopelessness? How do I channel my thoughts?
@thesleepcoachschool8192 Жыл бұрын
Hi there, I think when we call a thought intrusive, we are a) discovering that we think of some thoughts as wanted and others as unwelcome which leads to b) attempting to manage/channel/control thoughts. And the more we try to control things that get more intense the more we try to control them, the more we feel a loss of control. On the other hand when we no longer label thoughts or judge them as unwanted, then we no longer try to channel them, we just let them be. Then our sense of absence of control fades away as we no longer attempt to control that which cannot be controlled.

Thank you for sharing Romi’s story IN PROGRESS! This is so helpful to someone like me who is still very much in the journey and in a deep speed bump. His comments about the earworms keeping him awake are SO relatable. Do you have an episode specifically about this and what to do? Ignoring it isn’t working (day 4 of the same song in my head only at night), listening to the end of the song like experts suggest isn’t helping. If anything, it seems to be reinforcing it. I’ve tried visualizing it as a cloud moving away from me, putting the song on a train headed south, and evening forcefully singing along with it in my head hoping that my brain just gets sick of it. Do you have any videos or suggestions on this? Thank you!
@thesleepcoachschool8192 Жыл бұрын
Hi AC, We don’t, but now it’s on my list! Kristen talks about this in her story as well. Oh and Romi, he said just after we stopped recording that one day he felt like “why am I scared of this song”, the ear worm song, and he played it in his car. Then it stopped! It’s always the same answer, when we try to make something go away, by imagining it as a cloud or some other way, it stays. When we welcome, things bother us less and less
@allycat6141 Жыл бұрын
@@thesleepcoachschool8192 thank you! That’s a great suggestion. I just found the song that’s been bothering me and listened to it. I do hope it helps my brain let it go! I look forward to seeing the episode on earworms in the future. Thank you again!

Hello Daniel. Acceptance is something I don’t fully understand. How do you let go and accept this is happening (which then in turn leads to not controlling)? Very hard to understand this concept. I’m seeing this is the key.
@shariwithey2704 Жыл бұрын
Hi 👋 I also really struggled with acceptance. I remember thinking how can I accept something that is so completely awful? How can I not care? I felt as if it were impossible. But the truth is, it is happening, whether we like it or not. All we can do is try to make the process easier little by little. Sometimes I found it easier to just be truthful and just accepted that in this particular moment that I don't accept it. I would then move on and find small ways that I could accept each moment/night. No one would be able to accept having insomnia forever. But can you accept that this is temporary and all the small behaviour changes you can make will add up to you being free from insomnia? Hope this helps a bit 🙏
@Megatron986100 Жыл бұрын
Do you have to wait for your emotions to switch to accepting it to accept it?? It’s not something that can be forced correct?
@shariwithey2704 Жыл бұрын
@Megatron986100 Your right. You definitely can't force yourself to accept feelings, emotions or wakefulness. Those things can never be controlled. But you can do things to teach the brain that wakefulness is not scary. It really takes time. But if you can show yourself that you can still do things after a bad night, or that being awake at 3am is allowed, then things start getting easier bit by bit.

Shari said it so well, nothing to add 🙂

@@shariwithey2704 if you are practicing acceptance of your reality, how do you let go of your underlying motive. For instance, practicing acceptance so you will sleep or practicing acceptance so you can get rid of anxiety. This part is tough to wrap my head around.
