I would just like to mention that I appreciate the time Gavin takes to talk about his camera equipment and speeds. Don't really know what it means but I appreciate it nevertheless
@bradhaines31425 жыл бұрын
he only really mentions 2 things, frames and resolution. frames is pictures, measured in per second. resolution is detail which is they measure the number in pixels. so on a 'Full HD' screen that means 1920x1080 pixels, or for 4k aka 'Ultra HD' its 3840x2160

Guys I have a challenge for you. Get a big industrial fan and film a parachute opening. It's something I've wanted to see for a very long time and I know almost every skydiver out there would love to see what really happens to their kit, and perhaps we could try and induce some common malfunctions that occur all in the name of science. My friend and I have a lot of old skydive kit we would be willing to lend you to use. We are both certified skydivers and advanced packers and would love it if you could consider doing this.
@newfization7 жыл бұрын
That would be amazing, first time I jumped (1990 I think) my slider stuck. I thought I was all cool, pumped my toggles til it came down, then I could hear the radio and they guided me straight back to the airfield because I'd lost too much altitude, I followed the highway back for most of it and it felt like I was right over the cars but couldn't hear anything at all other than the odd snap of the canopy. When I landed the coach came over and said no one was worried at all, I was pumping my arms so god damned fast they thought I'd stop falling and take flight. Bit of a kick to the ego lol. I made two more jumps that day, love to do it again. What would be cool to see is the reserve chute going off, from what I remember it's attached to a big ass spring that fires it out at a certain altitude. I gotta go see if that's out there, love to see how that works!
@northbaseuk8827 жыл бұрын
The reserve does work off a spring loaded pilot chute, but it only fires at a certain altitude if you forget/get knocked out/can't pull the D-ring for whatever reason. If you want some entertainment from some novice jumpers on KZbin type in "double aad fire" it ought to be the top video, I promise you you will say "shhhitttt" several times. This is the video we show students when they say "Why can't I take my GoPro?"...it's amazing how easy it is to lose altitude awareness early on in the sport!

(Little information on how/why the pellet splits) 1. Everyone should know this but, since the blade is sharp and far thinner on the edge than the pellet (0.177 of an inch) along with the force the air pistol puts on the back of the pellet causes it to split. 2. The pellet that was used was made of lead, the majority of pellets are. While being a lot heavier, it is also much softer than steel, which is what the blade is made out of. This difference is what makes the cut so clean and like butter, which you can see in 28,500fps. The lead on steel is also why the cut edge that Dan shows is so smooth and perfect, along with the great made knife by SOG! Which, by the way, is said like hog but with an 'S'. Thanks for the video guys, nice to see the split in action! NOTE: The reason real bullets fired out of a firearm also split is because bullets are made of lead as well. A lot of them have a copper lining on them, which is also softer than steel.

Youre right the relative speeds really do help to get a good idea of something. The fact that an airsoft bullet from a little handgun (spring?) can travel faster than a balloon can pop (which is logarithmic, but possibly more linear looking when taken in relation to the tension on the rubber) really puts into perspective how fast its traveling. Also its a great fun fact for parties, as it is both interesting and easily testable, but hard to measure, so people might spend some time trying to prove it to themselves
